High Ratio Snows happening in Philadelphia and Atlantic City right now. "Light" snow with Temps in the teens and 20s with dew points in single digits. Just started so nothing sticking. Too light. Very light but look at those dews!
Look at these temps with the Light snow falling. Areas with darker blues on radar obviously seeing little more snow falling than the flurries under the light blue. Air is so dry most of it not reaching the ground.
The no wind did help, also we may be acclimating to these temps. Now 30s will feel Tropical for you. lol. Surprised to even hear you say "didn't feel bad" at 17F.
Eh...not really. It's not the fronts that do it. We don't need a full ridge or moisture from a front to get snowstorms. Southern New England and NYC pretty much need a coastal storm for good snowstorms. Need troughs centered over Southeast. Just like when the ridge was parked out west we were doing great with "winter" and snow. Don't need the swings. Just a trough that waves back and forth in the East.

I was having lunch with my friend and he is not really a fan of real cold, though we both go to Vermont and love skiing there. He said the same thing, that it felt quite comfortable in our winter coats and hats with brilliant sunshine and no wind. reminded me of Afghanistan where the huge mountains all around kept winds minimal, but the air was very cold. didn't feel that cold there either. I imagine that is what Beijing is probably like in winter.

It's what I don't get about people who seem to welcome and cheer on weather extremes be they extreme heat or cold. Both are horrific and shouldn't be celebrated just because someone enjoys extremes. It's not something to enjoy or celebrate at all.
Wrong. My enjoyment of extremes is what makes me a weather enthusiast in the first place, and that's not going to change just because of practical considerations such as unfortunate casualties and busted water mains.
Once I saw the forecast I actually couldn't help but to experience it myself. Booked a quick two-day trip to Chicago so that I could see the epicness. According to my Iphone this is how much walking I did in over there on Wednesday (the best day):
Not something to be enjoyed? lol. By far, it was one of the most epic trips of my life. Never thought I'd get to experience that kind of cold & wind in a major metropolis.
