Looks like we wont even come close to the record. .
Sometimes timing of just 6 hours will ruin things. The coldest airmass was leaving the region, I wonder if it was 6hrs slower if you would of done it. Or its an UHI thing like Ed's Mountain said. Could be combo of both these.

I been watching your posts and maps and yes, warmup here, cold on opposite side. Looks like we get another arctic blast after 1st week of February so guess that means you warm up.

The -11 is from Westfield just slightly west of Chicopee. Similar elevation. Currently both at same temp of -2° at 10am. Wow.

-2.2°F low here at 6:26am! Not bad. Lowest Wind Chill of -15°F
We were at -6 this morning in Indianapolis with a wind chill hovering in the -20 area. Wind chill warning finally expires at 1pm as we'll get into the teens today. Winter Weather Advisory for tonight, however, as 2-4 inches of snow is now coming our way. Still, mid-30s tomorrow, mid-40s Saturday, 50s on Sunday and around 60 on Monday. Quite a warmup from this deep freeze! A 70 degree temperature rise from Wednesday morning to next Monday afternoon.
Well today is 46F with high of 58F in Austin. Cloudy.
A drastic warm-up is coming into Austin, highs near 75F by Sunday and near 80 by Tuesday with humidity and mostly cloudy. The Gulf of Mexico is making a big comeback. Then a possible frost expected two days later. Snow expected in Dallas next Thursday after highs in the upper 70's. Only in Texas.
It's not unusual to get this warm this early. The humidity in my house is 30% so it will be nice to get some humidity back into the house.
I need to trim my live oaks before Feb 1, the "growing season" is Feb 1 - June 30 for oaks. They go dormant during the summer heat. So the only time to trim them is July 1 to January 31.
We went to - 7 in SE Pa this morning. I think the coldest was 20 below during the 1994 deep freeze.
I like to check the temps in Siberia and Yellowknife Canada. Usually when one is below normal( for them) the other is normal or above. Now both are below normal right now. But the South Pole is normal around 25 below. Its summer there.
I used to be able to check the polar ice pack at a website called The Cryosphere Today. But they took it offline a year or so ago. Does anyone have a website that has polar ice satellite photos?

felt like 0°F or just below when I was walking outside at 9 am today, didn't feel cold enough for much colder even though reported wind chill was -15°F, maybe the wind was a little calmer and temperatures a bit warmer than Chicopee? [0°F & 8 mph = -14°F wind chill[ Slight breeze but not adding to the wind chill. 6°F yesterday with 24 mph wind (creating a wind chill of -12°F) felt much worse, my face stung.
Midway indeed has been built up for generations but ORD has seen significant urban growth since the 1980s. I still remember seeing corn fields in Schaumburg which is just northwest of ORD back in the 80s. Now it's all homes and strip malls
But it looks as if the really cold temps stop just north and west of the city overnight
And yesterday's max at Midway (-25ºC) wasn't a record?
Rochester, NY, reached -33.9ºC yesterday. According to wiki, it should be a new record, anyone can confirm it?
