Went for groceries at 11:00 AM here in SE Pa. The sun was out and the snow was melted off the streets and it was 28 degrees. When I came out a little over a half hour later, the sky was gray with no sun and a cold wind was blowing. But it was still about 30 degrees, the cars thermometer said that anyway. Now at 12:30 its light snow, flurries really.
One of the best drives in my life was across Pa in January. Snow squalls through the mountain valleys, lake effect squalls in eastern Ohio, squalls chasing as all the way along I 80 as a polar front moved east with high winds right at our heels.
Bright Blue all day, waiting for the Squall. It's less than 2 hrs away.
Current temps at 5000'. I usually outline the freezing line. The -20C line is pretty much the Arctic front.
Huge below normal airmass. Too bad not staying. Would of been interesting.
Current temps and Upper heights. Vortex is leaving
Alberta in the banana belt once again. Winnipeg at -39.8°C at 7:00am. It's almost certainly dropped below the magic -40°C/-40°F at some point during the night.
Models do suggest Edmonton's time is coming this weekend.
Weatheronline seems to get their forecasts straight from the models without any human insight. It's going to get cold but seriously doubt it will get this cold!
Last night it was -26 before I went to bed. Thats officially the coldest temp I've ever been in. Lets see if we break it tonight!!!
Honestly? As cold as it truly is, its very overhyped. I mean yea its cold, but people act like you freeze to death the second you walk out the door lmao.
I will say, exposed skin DOES get cold very fast. But we're all dressed up like astronauts anyway.
Was it subarctic last Memorial Day when we reached 100 degrees?
