I was reading that Redding has one of the warmest climates for its latitude. It's around the same latitude as Toronto but much warmer in all seasons.
It has a Med climate on steroids. Hotter than Sacramento in the summer and more rain than Portland in the winter. In between rainy periods it can get nice.
It's probably one of the best climates at its latitude in the world.
Redding has almost ideal winters IMO with epic winter downpours and very mild temps. Summers are a bit too hot for me but nearby places are cooler luckily - it's surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the fourth side is the heat source. It is one of the warmest places in the world at its latitude (although parts of Spain are slightly warmer).
Redding is far south enough to get lower split flow on El Niño years, causing aforementioned epic downpours. Storms delivering large amounts of precipitation travel straight from Brookings to Redding. Everywhere between approximately Yreka, CA and Bellingham, WA (could be wrong here) misses out and gets a dry winter.
40 below with 15 mph winds in Baker Lake NU right now.
Wind chill in the -70s F (~-60C).
It's the kind of place I can only dream of visiting during winter, as there are no roads and no airport.
Edit: I guess there is an airport; one can actually fly in from Winnipeg at a ridiculous price.
Wow, Apple Weather even uses "frigid" to describe the weather!
