At least its sunny out. Yes, I was layered. No jacket though. Just tshirt, long sleeve and sweatshirt.

Beautiful winter morning with the smell of Cherry in the air

Pine needles drooping

I had a flat tire last weekend and my car has struggled with the cold the past couple days. Thankfully I'm getting an oil change and tire rotation this weekend. This weather wrecks havoc on vehicles.

There's a weird inversion going on this weekend.

Seattle will be cloudy and around 10ºC.
Portland will be sunny and around 12ºC.
Medford will be cloudy and around 16ºC.
Redding will be cloudy and around 21ºC. That's very warm even for Redding in January.

What part of the northwoods region are you planning to visit, if I may ask.

I prefer far northern Wisconsin, Vilas County area around Eagle River and Boulder Junction as I have done hundreds of miles of trails there in the winter. They have a huge trail network with lots of state and national forest land. For multi-use trails they require you to use snowshoes. With over 20 inches of snow cover, conditions look great. They even have a handy Map App for trails and a great GIS website as well for a rural county.

Batteries always seem to die in very cold weather huh?

I was reading that Redding has one of the warmest climates for its latitude. It's around the same latitude as Toronto but much warmer in all seasons.

It has a Med climate on steroids. Hotter than Sacramento in the summer and more rain than Portland in the winter. In between rainy periods it can get nice.

It's probably one of the best climates at its latitude in the world.

Yeah, thats when old drained out batteries have a hard time. Otherwise the batteries they sell up here can handle the cold and the alternators charge it up when we drive... Mine was 3 yrs old. Low end of the 3-5yr life span.

Do you guys look for cold cranking amps down there?

I have a 500CCA. Its the number of amps a 12-volt battery can deliver at 0°F for 30 seconds while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts
