That's a depressing perspective. I go outside every day to do a little jogging or bike riding, and try to enjoy the cold as much as possible. In fact, if I didn't go outside during winter I'd probably be depressed and lethargic and lazy as hell. -10C isn't even that cold imo - there are far colder places than nyc.

I don't really think of cold as something to be enjoyed. I've gone on hikes when it's not too cold (20s), would try bike riding if it were milder.

It's sunny and 60 here in Denver lol!

Don't worry, we'll get our tomorrow All that Arctic air is backing into Colorado, and we're expecting up to a foot of snow in the city over the weekend. That'll be the deepest snow we've had in a few years, IIRC. Bleh... I hate snow And cold

This weather is downright RIDICULOUS!!!! From now until the end of the month the extended outlook has ONE DAY in which we will have a daytime high above freezing, and that is this coming Saturday, 36F with a chance of snow showers! Tonight's low is supposed to drop to -10F with wind chills from -25F to -30F tonight and tomorrow morning! It was brutal last winter as well, but it seems that this winter may be worse than the last! March does seem to offer a glimmer of hope. While I realize forecasts that far off aren't nearly as accurate, there is nothing indicating single digit highs, or lows, or anything below zero! Unfortunately, there is nothing showing anything close to 60F either! I guess we have to wait until April or May before we see a significant warm up here in northeast Ohio! Christ I know it gets cold in the Cleveland area, but this extreme even by our standards! The average high for this time of year is around 38F with the average low being 22F.

All I have to say is after 2 brutal winters, last summer being really nothing more than an extended spring (for example 72F on July 4th WTF) it better be a LOOOOOONG HOT SUMMER!!! I hope from Memorial Day to Labor Day temps range from 85F-90F! You will NEVER hear me complain that it's too hot!

It's now below 0°F on the Adirondacks peaks at 4000'+ in NY and in the single digits F° aloft over Georgia.

Just insane airmass the more I look at it engulfing the entire East half of the U.S. -20C aloft over New England would be impressive enough but over Virginia and NJ??? Geesus

That's gotta be miserable! It gets damn cold in Denver, but never lasts long. We've been as high as 75 degrees in the past 3 weeks. Looks like we're getting slapped with winter for the next week though.

Looks like this morning's 850-mb sounding out of Wilmington OH may have tied the February record.February 2015 Arctic Blasts, Coldest Air of Season-kiln_850mb_sounding_20150219_12z.png

It sucks! 2 years in a row of this extreme cold BS! I guess we're in the cold cycle, because 2 winters ago it was quite mild. It almost felt like living in say Nashville. Yes we did get a few significant snow falls, but my son did not have any snow days, and usually any snow received melted within about 3 days. Let's just say I didn't have to do much shoveling. That winter was followed by a mild spring. Let's put it this way, my neighbors had a St. Patrick's day party and here it could either be 70F or, in the 30s with snow. Well, it was 80F and I had shorts on! By mid April all of the trees had almost all of their leaves on them, which that usually doesn't happen here until around the first or second week of May. That summer was quite warm, and we had close to 20 days that went over 90F. Now 90F is not uncommon here either, but usually we only get a handful of them. Last year, I think we had 2 or 3. I've seen 70F in February before, but it isn't happening this year, and probably won't happen at least until the middle of April at the rate we're going!

I mean, I get it! It's Cleveland! It gets cold! A day or 2 with single digits here and there is common! This is nuts!

Tomorrow is our turn. Notice the -20C air aloft is still over the ADK's, that's pushing East. Will be over us tonight/tomorrow. I actually dropped from 20s during the day today. Now at 15°F Did I just say that? "dropped from the 20s during the day"??

You can see the current 850mb temps with this link and play the loop.
