Maxed out at 25 degrees today, after a low of 11 this morning.

I went out to collect the garbage can at 2:30, when it was 23 degrees, and I was barefoot (I work at home) and the driveway, which slopes down facing south actually felt warm. Come to think of it, it felt warm on my dark sweatshirt as well. Sure, it was bitterly cold (I could actually see my breath,) but if you stood in the sun, protected from the wind, it felt pretty nice. I did walk over to the shaded portion of the carport to see how cold the concrete felt, and yes, it zapped my feet pretty good in about 10 seconds...lol. And the cold really had a bite to it in the shade, especially combined with the wind.

It's just odd how it can feel warm and cold at the same time, and how the ground can be warm enough to walk on barefoot even with the air temperature well below freezing. Is this a common phenomenon up north on "blue norther" days with bright sun? Or is it due to the higher sun angle we have down here?

It is quite cold here. Today's high might be the lowest ever recorded in February at 25 F, and this is in full sun. Think there is a good chance of single digits in ATL if this holds up.

Did it feel warm walking around in all that concrete around campus, especially on south-facing buildings? See any crazy students with shorts? LOL.

What gradient?

Which side would you rather be on?

It's 17 above normal Western Nebraska, 19 below normal on East side

Yes we did get a few significant snow falls, but my son did not have any snow days, and usually any snow received melted within about 3 days. Let's just say I didn't have to do much shoveling. That winter was followed by a mild spring. Let's put it this way, my neighbors had a St. Patrick's day party and here it could either be 70F or, in the 30s with snow. Well, it was 80F and I had shorts on! By mid April all of the trees had almost all of their leaves on them, which that usually doesn't happen here until around the first or second week of May. That summer was quite warm, and we had close to 20 days that went over 90F. Now 90F is not uncommon here either, but usually we only get a handful of them. Last year, I think we had 2 or 3. I've seen 70F in February before, but it isn't happening this year, and probably won't happen at least until the middle of April at the rate we're going!

I mean, I get it! It's Cleveland! It gets cold! A day or 2 with single digits here and there is common! This is nuts!
Yeah, after last winter, I figured this one would be milder for the northeast. Apparently not!

It's hard to say what's "normal" in winter in Denver since it's so erratic in winter anyway, but so far, the only even way out of the norm was the freak Actic cold that hit the 2nd week of November when we got down to something like -18. That's extremely early for such cold, and even unusual to get that cold in January. Dec/January have been normal with little snow and days here and there into the 50s/60s/low 70s. The past two weeks, we've been well on the above normal side with plenty of nights staying above freezing and several days in the 70s. Now the forecast looks bad... looks like a week of serious winter weather and the highest temps into the low 40s for next week. Average highs are 48/49.
