Dunkirk, NY Chautauqua County, -27F low temperature- that has to be one of the lowest temperatures they have ever recorded there right on top of Lake Erie. It makes you wonder how the viticulture in that area is holding up as that region is the largest grower of Concord grapes. Check the plant hardiness zones for that area.
That UHI is at its worst on calm, clear nights shouldn't surprise you.
FOK (on eastern LI) has an average low of 6F so far this month, while JFK (Western LI) has an average low of 17F. The reason is precisely this. Those calm clear nights allow the east end to radiate away its heat, while the west end basks in heat from uhi.

Can you guys find the arctic front just by the Current temps & Radar?
Reports of snow squalls in PA from it pushing across. Light Snow down in Southeast to.
Chattanooga Tennessee had light snow falling for 5 hours+ and 0.3" accumulated. Normal Feb snows is 0.6".
Snowing in Virginia and North Carolina again. .......and Boston.
Saranac Lake, NY (KSLK) hit -30F on Tuesday morning.
The 36 below at KART breaks the February record low (since 1950) last set 19 Feb 2007; the high that day was 28F, making a diurnal range of 63F! But it seems to be in a low-lying area (good drainage for radiative cooling), which may explain the large winter diurnal range for a location downwind of the Great Lakes.
Through the first 17 days of February, Pittsburgh has an average temperature that's 8.7°F below normal. Here are the forecast morning low and afternoon high temperatures for the next seven days, per the National Weather Service:
February 19: 0°F | 4°F
February 20: -10°F | 7°F
February 21: 4°F | 35°F
February 22: 32°F | 35°F
February 23: 12°F | 20°F
February 24: 5°F | 24°F
February 25: 9°F | 21°F
As for the last three days of the month, the AccuWeather long-range forecast has morning lows in the 10s and afternoon highs in the 20s all three days. The average morning low temperature in Pittsburgh between now and the end of the month ranges from 24°F to 27°F, and the average afternoon high ranges from 40°F to 43°F. So what I'm wondering is, do you think it's possible, or even likely, that Pittsburgh will end February with an average temperature that's 10°F or more below normal?
