Good read: How Ukraine became a laboratory for Western weapons and battlefield innovation

Quote:
The targeting app is among dozens of examples of battlefield innovations that Ukraine has come up with over nearly a year of war, often finding cheap fixes to expensive problems. Small, plastic drones, buzzing quietly overhead, drop grenades and other ordinance on Russian troops. 3D printers now make spare parts so soldiers can repair heavy equipment in the field. Technicians have converted ordinary pickup trucks into mobile missile launchers. Engineers have figured out how to strap sophisticated US missiles onto older Soviet fighter jets such as the MiG-29, helping keep the Ukrainian air force flying after nine months of war. Ukraine has even developed its own anti-ship weapon
Quote:
Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine has also offered the United States and its allies a rare opportunity to study how their own weapons systems perform under intense use
Quote:
US defense contractors have also taken note of the novel opportunity to study – and market – their systems.

Re Leopard tanks:
Quote:
“Even if the decision to send our Leopard tanks to Kyiv came tomorrow, the delivery would take until the start of next year,†Rheinmetall’s chief executive, Armin Papperger, told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Rheinmetall, which manufactures the battle vehicle’s gun, has 22 Leopard 2 and 88 older Leopard 1 tanks in its stocks. Getting the Leopard tanks ready for battle, however, would take several months and cost hundreds of millions of euros the company could not put up until the order was confirmed, Papperger said. “The vehicles must be completely dismantled and rebuilt,†he added.

You may have ruined my evening. I spent the afternoon watching a British spy series and now you come along using phrases like "very much not the sort of". Please understand I have to go out with good ol' boys and their wives. They are not going to understand why I sound like a Limey all of a sudden.
Pip pip - chin up, old chap. Tell them you've been reading Dickens.

Too late. I practiced my "Good ol' Boy" accent (the one I grew up with) before dinner, but that danged BBC theater accent leaked out.
"D' f*uck wrong wit you, Man?", said my Cajun buddy.

(back to Cajun speak) It gon' take Germany a yeah to fix up a tank?! A hol yeah?! D' f*ck dey doin' wid it? Somebody shootin' at em, dey git it ready tammora!

It has been reported the missile that hit the apartment building was a KH-22 anti-ship type. It flies high and fast, and has been updated in the past years. This is not the first time KH-22 has been used. They cost about $1M each.

During WW2 Germans had a well designed tank, Tiger, it had a few success stories fighting Russian T-34 but that fact did not change outcome of the war. Just history.
