At the clinics I volunteer at (Rhode Island) we have:

J&J / Jansen - one shot same booster or 1st (only)
Pfizer booster
Pfizer 1st / 2nd shot
Moderna booster
Moderna 1st / 2nd shot

So five selections at each.
I got my booster at the Walgreens in Downtown Crossing 2 weeks ago. We had the same options (I went with Moderna - had Moderna for the first round too).

Anecdotally, there seems to be quite a bit more confidence in Moderna among those in my circles.

I got a Pfizer kicker to my previous Pfizer vaccinations because that is what my trusted Dr recommended. Anyone who got the JnJ sugar pill (kidding) the first time around, he was recommending either of the MRNAs for a booster. Though he recommended college age family members go with Pfizer over Moderna if available to them.

Seems totally reasonable based on the data for efficacy at 6 months. It remains to be seen how the 50% booster dose performs. With my limited knowledge, it’s unclear if it’s more the 3.5x larger dose than Pfizer or better transmission through the cell wall in some magical way way beyond my non-existent knowledge of biochemistry.

It still blows me away at the state of biotech where you can create an effective vaccine in a few weeks.

A very good comparison of booster efficacy, and in particular the mixing/matching. I got the Pfizer booster after Moderna 1st & 2nd, on the basis of the table shown.

I just went for the simple series - Moderna all the way. While I don't want to go into all the details (again), just because they both generated mRNA sequences that code for the Covid-19 spike protein doesn't mean that the vaccines were the same - and I am not even talking about formulations - just the mRNA sequence used and the protein generated - they were different, and there is an argument to be made for getting a diversity of exposure to different (if still closely related) antigens.

Exclamation Omicron - first US case

The 1st case of Omicron has been detected in the US. It's someone in California who recently came here from South Africa.

Striking! And one big difference: We are doing nothing right now to prevent the situation from getting worse. Plus the uncertainty of Omicron.
I would also add that I am quite sure Omicron is in MA and even RI right now. I am basing this on how many cases are being discovered even in small European countries (and reading the international newspapers, they are encouraging people with a travel history to get tested, are notifying people from flights with positive Omicron cases, are doing public messages about where and when cases interacted with the public, are telling people with a travel or contact history to get tested in specific locations, if possible, to ensure that their tests will be fast-tracked, they are not allowing contacts of Omicron cases to test free (like our test and stay program in schools) etc !). While we...have found a grand total of 1 case in the entire US. How can we still be trailing so much in our response? After Biden's election last year, I would not have thought in my wildest dreams we would be doing as poorly as we are. They appear to have many of the exact same priorities as our last administration, albeit hidden in a more politically correct cloak, and with fewer gaffes (no injections with disinfectants, or irradiation of patient bodies in UV lights...).
