I thought it was just my perception about the people on the roads. Glad I’m not going completely insane.

It’s going to be really interesting to see how the next year takes place, and the ways in which people blow off steam and readjust to a more normal life.

Less than 200 new cases. Definitely dropping. Of course, last summer numbers dropped as low as well. The real test will come this fall/winter

Lord, I hope we've turned the corner. We lead the nation in % vaccinated, and hopefully by fall with this existing base + boosters, we don't give the stupid virus or its future variants any room to thrive in New England!

Sounds great, but we have to get those lagging Rhode Islanders to protect themselves, and everyone else. Roll up your sleeve, Li'l Rhodie! (Sounds like "Hang down your head, Tom Dooley").

Massachusetts is 51% fully vaccinated. Rhode Island is 50% fully vaccinated. RI ranks #7 nationally for number with at least one jab. The biggest problem area in southern New England is Hampden County/Springfield.

Traffic seems to be like fridays every day. I think we'll see encouragement to leave earlier and just do remote for longer hours. There's been some arguments now about the real numbers in india being more to 1-4 million deaths. The lack of outreach to rural areas is huge.

I can see most of north america opening up and the EU. But it's going to take a long while before a recovery is in Asia and Africa. By mid July I'm assuming the terms for academia will come in. I'd assume that they'd have testing before going on the planes and then once here get a shot, stay for two weeks or so and then get the other.

I'm going to start planning on leaving at 2PM and just wrapping up my day at home or doing more hours in the evening.

I'm not sure if it's just due to having a year of light traffic, but the last fews have been dismal in terms of my love for sitting in traffic, even if it's maybe 85-90% of the time i used to spend.

Pre-pandemic I had managers who acted like you were asking then to donate a kidney if you asked for a work schedule that avoided a 5pm or later departure time. I am hoping that sentiment is dead after this pandemic is fully over. With the viability of working from home there is really no reason to deny scheduling flexibility so that people can avoid traditionally bad commute times.

I saw this tweet recently that reminded me of the above post:

European out-of-offices: “I’m away camping for the summer. Email again in September”

American out-of-offices: “I have left the office for two hours to undergo kidney surgery but you can reach me on my cell anytime”

Looked at traffic today and now it's starting to look like old times.
