Walensky was referring to a new CDC study that suggests those fully inoculated with the vaccines produced by Moderna and Pfizer don’t transmit the virus."

Still a limited study, but quite encouraging.

The more it's studied, the more we know.

Now how do we tell the non-mask wearing who are vaccinated versus the non-mask wearing a/ssholes??

Well, you don't. But given the still "5%" or whatever chance of post-vaccine infection, and the fact that the pandemic is not yet under control, I don't think it really matters.

That quote is hyperbole hyping the vaccines to the skeptics. The mRNA vaccines are 90% effective. You can still get infected after you’re vaccinated. There is a period where you’re contagious.

The point is to get the transmission rate below 1.0. If the majority of the country is vaccinated, the transmission rate will drop below 1.0 and the pandemic will end. That doesn’t mean that some vaccinated people won’t contract the disease or spread the disease while they’re infected. The other point of the vaccines is that they keep you out of the hospital. If you get sick, you are unlikely to have symptoms to that extreme.

I don't know if this rush to reopen schools is going to have a huge impact but I just received word about an elementary school in Connecticut where they now have 50 cases and have to shut it down again. Students might not die from it but they can serve me transmit it otherwise you wouldn't have all the way up to 50 cases. I have a feeling we're not really going to be done with this until sometime in the fall at least in terms of vaccinations domestically in the United States.

Some promising news from Pfizer/BioNTech, with the usual caveats

- In participants aged 12-15 years old, BNT162b2 demonstrated 100% efficacy and robust antibody responses, exceeding those reported in trial of vaccinated 16-25 year old participants in an earlier analysis, and was well tolerated

- The companies plan to submit these data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as soon as possible to request expansion of the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and EU Conditional Marketing Authorization for BNT162b2

- The companies also provided an update on the Phase 1/2/3 study of BNT162b2 in children aged 6 months to 11 years

You might feel like you're about to die for a couple hours but that sure beats feeling like you're going to die until you actually do die.
