A friend in Amesbury (near Newburyport) is now in the hospital with COVID. He had his first Moderna shot around Marth 11th and starting coughing this past Saturday so he went and got tested. Tested positive. By Sunday he could barely breathe so he called 911. He's on oxygen and I was told that they said it was one of the new variations.

For one year of working in a grocery store and he didn't get it, these new mutations must be very contagious, just as they say.

This past Saturday was the 27th. That's 16 days after going for the 1st vaccine shot. Do you think he got it at the vaccine place?

Is it really that bad?

First symptoms 16 days after the fact? I think that's a long shot.

I've heard some rare examples like that, but not for most people I know. Certainly wasn't for me. Think of a mild flue (chills, soreness, aches and pains), for a day or two.

I was thinking that could have happened. He's all over the place though, eats in restaurants, goes in stores, so who knows?

I don’t think I’ve heard it described that way by anyone I have spoken with about it.

I get my first Sat and 2nd by end of month. Doesn’t help to read stuff like this

Probably not much to even worry about. For my first, I was really tired the next day and slept a long time. Slight headache too. Second one--I slept for an entire day after it and the headache lasted longer and was bad enough that I had to take a pain killer. I did not have a sore arm or anything else.

My husband was the same as I was after the first one but for the second one, his arm ached and is still aching two weeks later. He had the fatigue too. Mainly for most people, it's fatigue plus probably a headache. Some people get a sore arm.

This is somewhat worrisome (regarding vaccine efficacy for the new variants)...In the UK, few developed symptoms more than 14 days after the first shot (mostly only the B1117 variant, however). Can you find out which variant it is? Now who knows, maybe he will be ill but (hopefully) not die thanks to the vaccine...
