conrads89, I'd be very excited to be moving this month to MB. I don't know of any group physically in MB or anywhere in SC. However, I have not thoroughly researched it. I can ask my friend there (but I doubt she will know as her relo is very recent). Anyway, for now we have this thread and I hope to continue posting here as long as city-data exists. There are many other threads in the SC section with a multitude of info but as far as I know there are no other ongoing threads specifically for new people for MB. Good luck!

Default PHYSICAL Newcomers Club for Women in MB

I just found one via google. There could be others but this is the only one that readily came up for me today. I hurried through the main page and it says it's a club for women but you don't have to be a newcomer. They have meetings but I think it said meetings are Sept. through May. Looks like a large, highly structured organization. Covers "Grand Strand" -- Pawley's Island through Little River. Maybe another group can be started to include males as well. Anyway, here's the womens' club's web address:

MovingSouthGal, thanks so much for the link to the newcomer's club. I bookmarked it and hope to be using it within the next year or so. Best of luck to you in your move.

Cam34, I probably won't be able to move for at least 6 months. Recently a household member became disabled and if he qualifies for disability income, it could soon become a reality. Before I leave PA, I'd like to get some cosmetic "work" done by my doc here. The only thing I may miss about Philly is the medical and dental care -- so many dentists, specialists and hospitals here! I may simply have to travel a bit farther in SC to get comparable care.

I don't know about a mfg. job for you. Today I heard Obama say he wants things "Made in the USA" shipped to China. Hope he can get anything more "Made in the USA". Otherwise, as an earlier poster said, maybe something in the restaurant industry. You could take a job I would have applied for 25 years ago. Jobs that require a lot of time on my feet are history for me, due to a spine problem. I'd like to get a skill in some kind of medical office. I would LOVE to work for a cosmetic surgeon who does lots of anti-aging procedures, since I have some experience with that as a patient.

Keep in touch!

Conrads89, Did you move in yet?! If so, hope it's going well. I did not catch where you were in PA. I am in Philadelphia.

I have found only the newcomers group for ladies. If you want a group open to all, maybe you and/or other newcomers from city-data and wherever can start a physical group. That way, someone else could do the start-up that I thought maybe I'd be doing, and also this thread in particular possibly could to "spin off" to a physical club.

I will be renting for a while. It probably won't be easy to find my purchased home -- a property with fairly open zoning to rent out at least one room in my home. I'd like to have a small rooming house. Largest unit on the property will probably need to have at least 3 beds and 1.5 baths. Also, at least one other small living unit on the premises, either to rent out or for a family member. Prefer the ability to build onto the property, close enough to the beach to get the ocean breeze and last but not least -- a safe area, including safety walking to and from the closest bus stop. We have a few other issues such as having ramps when possible rather than steps, since we're all over 55, with orthopedic issues....but again, we'll rent -- as long as we need to. Also, for the purchase, we won't have to go really low-budget yet we will be somewhat limited. The rental can be much smaller, so we'll should be able to find something soon after we start looking.
