In fact, the appreciation on our home, if we sold, will have paid ALL of our expenses over the past 5 yrs...it's like we are being paid to live in Florida.

Nearly every homeowner in the State is in the same boat we are. For most renters, its a very different story, & whose fault is that?

How does political affiliation or sentiment change any of this ^^^ ?
Same situation here and cannot rep you again, so here you go...

Except that: 1.) A quick look at your posting history reveals that the majority of your comments are anti-Republican and, 2.) You lied about the actual headline of the story in your original post.

Your "business" ties might be better off severed if you cannot afford your homeowner's insurance premium. Just sayin'. Iowa is calling you.

An acquaintance of mine, a liberal (and avowed socialist) who literally has MSNBC on his TV all day long, is on his way out of FL in a few months. Not sorry to see him leave, actually. Used to consider him a friend, but time and life's experiences have divided us. I left the D party in some years back, and he disapproves of me leaving the hive.

He is a former coworker back in Colorado, retired about 8 years ago and moved into his late father's home in the Keys. The house is barely average and pretty run-down, but the lot it's on is stellar. He co-owns the house with his brother. Sold his tract-shack in CO for a small profit and has lived free in daddy's house. The estate pays all the bills, literally. And he will get a tidy little nest egg from a home his father, who fought against socialist/communist tyranny in WWII, built. He doesn't recognize the irony. No surprise.

He is heading back north to live near a woman he met on the internet. She refuses to divorce her husband, because she needs money, making barely nothing as a writer apparently. Good riddance.

I find it rather sad that some friendships, relationships and human connections are broken/alienated over political ideologies/identification.

I lived in FL for one year, near Sarasota, but moved away to Houston for almost 2.5 yrs (for my husband’s career as his company acquired a tech company in Houston.) but we are moving back to FL (in South Florida.) hopefully by early May. If one ever experienced the weather in Texas, FL weather is relatively pleasant and predictable. TX weather is roller coaster, harsh and very polarized. We had about 100 consecutive days of 100 degree last summer. We had hit 32 degree (even 25 degree at night) (If I want 32 degree I would move back to NYC or even Europe.) often in winter. And the pollen allergy that caused my daughter and our cat very uncomfortable thought the year. It also gets windy very often, and by windy it’s not the FL type of coastal breeze.

FL has pretty nice air and water quality (yes I researched.) and if there are tropical storms or afternoon thunder/shower they were never too long. (Houston just had violent thunderstorm with hails the other week. And it’s not uncommon to have 85 degree the day before and 48 degree the next day.) At least FL has beautiful water/coast surrounded and the tropical flora/topography is very aesthetically pleasing.

I’m not far right nor am I far left, if I must define my political stance I’d say I’m centrist who leans left. (No, I don’t think left means communist or “socialist”, and I do like the European socialism. People abuse these terms but parks, libraries, public transportations and free public schools are all under social/public services, so embracing and supporting public services doesn’t mean one is a “commie” or “socialist”.) I don’t let people’s position on the political spectrum define their value and worth, as long as they respect mine.

I don’t agree with a lot of FL policies and I definitely find DeSantis histrionics and over the top but I’m moving back for various reasons, and I’m perfectly aware of the rising cost of living and the HOI insurance. I’ll be a law-abiding citizen who pays tax and embraces what I like about FL, but I am perfectly aware of my privilege in both financially and the fact my husband works from home and makes a nice living. I feel for people who have fixed income or making a hard earn living locally yet the raising prices in everything created unnecessary stress. When the cost of living doesn’t match the earning, then it created social and income inequality.

Whether the articles have political agenda or not they are very sobering for someone who is moving back, soaring cost and insurance and all. So I do appreciate OP posting them, it’s always good to be reminded that money can be fleeing and always always always have safety nest and worst case scenario in mind, no matter where you live.

To me the white supremacy is far more scary than the sh*t talking of the red/blue bickering and high cost of living. Then again you can even find white supremacists in California. The world has gone crazy after Covid in my opinion, life is too good and too short to live in a place that makes you miserable; and life is too good and too short to not live where you want to live.

/the end.

It's actually quite telling and AN AFFIRMATION of the article, that so many people on CD (rabidly political ppl who live in FL) have turned this thread into some kind of political conspiracy.

I thought it was interesting that the people quoted in the article, WHO ARE ALL CONSERVATIVES, are leaving or have left the RED STATE of Florida due to cost of living and political culture. Just like I would think it's interesting if the article had featured liberals staying in the RED STATE of Florida because they love DeSantis's policies.

To all the people who have thanked me/repped me for posting the article, you are more than welcome!

And who are you to call me a liar?

My thread title is NOT the headline of the article. My thread title is my interpretation of the crux of the article, which features conservatives saying they are leaving FL due to cost of living and rabid political culture. None of which is a lie.

LOL. Sounds like Daddy's money is about to run out and now he needs to find a rich lover to support him. He had better hope that his rich lover's husband is OK with that arrangement.

Your interpretation is a lie and you know it. You know good and well FL is being flooded with conservatives. That article was written with an anti-Florida agenda. You are just too poisoned with ideology to actually recognize it. And it is just a few people quoted, out of the hundreds of thousands that actually are staying. It's very easy to find lefties leaving. Seeing that by the dozens, personally.

Iowa is calling you. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
