Nobody forces you to stay in your home. You do not object to no income tax. You can take increases up with your insurance carrier. Not even DeSantis has influence about weather and weather related damages.

Other than insurance, I can't think of any major items that are more expensive in Florida than elsewhere for the average/typical resident. In fact, I think that's it's CHEAPER here in Florida. Just the fact that there's no state income tax saves a typical resident a few thousand dollars per year in taxes.

I'm just not convinced that a large number (percentagewise) are leaving Florida for economic reasons. There's always been a pretty sizeable turnover due to people moving here and then a few, or many, years later decide to move back north in their waning years due to family reasons or loss of a spouse and desire to be closer to family after the spouse passes away. That's just normal and typical and has nothing to do with politics or cost of living in the majority of cases.

Florida has always had people moving out.....and Florida has always had net-positive migration

you can't blame it on DeSantis if the numbers are consistent before, and during him.....

...and they are LOL

Breaking Down Migration In and Out of Florida

What's Behind Florida's Most Recently Reported 250K Net New Residents?

"Florida’s recent historic levels of population growth are due to the exponential changes in overall net migration. However, when you break down the growth by inbound and outbound migration, migration out has remained steady, growing 1.5% per year on average over the past 10 years. Meanwhile, migration into Florida grew an average of 3.7% per year. Trends in these metrics were clear – more and more people are moving into Florida, with little change to the number leaving. "

"Another metric that supports this is where these people are moving. Latest data shows that we lost the most people to Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. These are states with either no income tax and/or a lower cost of living than Florida. "

Well, now that I've showed you how much DeSantis has done to protect homeowners, and reduce homeowners inurance costs, you should have no futher complaints.

Florida has gone from a Purple State to a Red State, while Dems lost ~1M voters, as Republicans added ~1M.

That is the big picture, and the type Republican's leaving is a subjective minor detail.

How many Republicans OF ANY KIND will vote for Biden, whether they left Florida, or not?

Libs & their fake news media like babies over FLA's constant winning, & success due to solid Conservative policies being enacted by Gov DeSantis.

Libs attack FLA to distract voters from the failures taking place daily in the Blue cities/states. Look over there, not over here at our own bankrupted city/state that is losing Millions of residents to massive ouflows in net domestic migration.

Others are losing miseraby, & any attempt to smear FLA is a sure sign of desperation on their part.

The opposite of DeSantis would be a governor who is wishy-washy about everything and never takes a stand based on principles, but rather holds a wetted finger to the wind to see which way the political winds are blowing before deciding whether he's for or against something. Then he gingerly tiptoes in the direction that he thinks the wind is blowing but is ready to do an about-face at the first sign of changing political sentiment. No thanks! I'll take the principled governor who stands up for the rights of the people any day.

NY Governor Karen Hochul is exactly the opposite of DeSantis.

If DeSantis was doing something about homeowners insurance in Florida, my premium would not be going up by more than 2k a year and there wouldn't be an article every frigging week quoting Floridians complaining about their insurance premiums DOUBLING.

If DeSantis was doing something about home insurance, Florida would not have the HIGHEST premiums in the US.

And for all the people who say "just move inland" well, here you go! In just two years, the premium on a Loxahatchee home has jumped from $3,900 a year to over $14,000.

This is starting to feel like a deliberate effort to make people move out of Florida altogether. And it appears to be working.

According to a new survey, 81% of Floridians are "very concerned" about insurance premium increases and 66% are considering moving out of the state.

The conspiracy is working.

Ever heard of Hurricanes? I think not. Post again after FLA's population recedes...like most of the states you like. FLA's winning winning winning...I'd hate to be on the other side.

More Americans want to move to FLA than any other state...not New York or California. NY + CA = Exodus

Typical cherry-picking of data to try to justify your complaining. Why not quote the entire headline from your link? "High homeowners insurance rates scaring away Florida homebuyers, other states face the same issue"

"South and Midwest hit with highest rates"

"Certain states have felt these rising premiums more than others. While Florida tops the list, Oklahoma residents have seen their annual rates increase 24% to $4,782, on average. Mississippi follows close behind with an average yearly premium of $4,017, up 23% from the previous year. Texas has also seen an increase in claims due to dangerous weather with an average premium of $3,969, up 18% annually."

My insurance rate of a little over $3,000 per year is considerably LOWER than the rates for the average house in Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Texas and I'm confident that my property is worth more than the average house in OK, MS, and probably TX also.

Looks like you're going to have to try harder to sell your crying to others because your current attempt isn't working out so well. Darn those pesky FACTS!

And, per your Loxahatchee example, they conveniently left out the market value of that home, but they did say ""All of Palm Beach County is pretty much in what they call a high-hazard, wind-borne debris region," Robert Norberg of Arden Insurance in Lantana said. Oh, and Palm Beach County isn't exactly the slums of Florida. Far from it.
