That is the OP's propaganda title and a bald faced lie.

The article is actually titled

They came for Florida's sun and sand. They got soaring costs and a culture war.'

The article clearly states it is about "long time Floridians and recent transplants". The OP changed the title for his own purposes.

Only 2 people in the article metion party affiliation. One is a centrist Republican, not a conservative. The other says she switched from Republican to Democrat.

The OP intentionally lied to spin the meaning of the article, knowing most people won't bother reading it. I don't appreciate that. The OP is not trustworthy.
Agree completely. It appears that he's complaining because he's finally having to pay insurance that is commensurate with the risk.

of course, there's nothing new in this article and they even admit it > "many who took part in the national migration south have fallen in love with the state"

.....obviously, Florida's population keeps increasing

for one thing, did that pasty faced author of the article only interview 6 people?

....of course not

he picked and choose the ones that made his point....

we will never know...but were there 100 people he interviewed that all said the opposite

This is no surprise to most readers here.

The OP's post history agenda is 99% political anti-republican anything, so it's not surprising he/she is trying to mislead people.

There is also a mention of lack of/substandard health care, which has been discussed on this board.

I'm always amazed at how people characterize the weather in Florida as "beautiful". How being greasy and sweaty for 8 months of the year is considered beautiful I will never understand.

You do realize, don't you, that nbcnews has a specific political agenda. It is not neutral. It is in a fight for its life to maintain its shrinking viewer base, and it has decided to go far left in an attempt to keep its loyal progressive viewers. No rational person looks to nbcnews for unbiased information.

NBC highlights people ‘fleeing’ Florida despite highest-in-nation net migration

"NBC News is under fire by members of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration for focusing on the “nearly 500,000” that left Florida in 2022-2023, despite total “net migration” statistics handing the Sunshine State the number one spot in the U.S."

“Great example of media bias on full display — but on the bright side, Florida will be just fine if NBC liberals decide not to move here,” Pushaw added.

Completely missed in many pages of cheerleaders assembling to say it's not all that bad and those pointing out the issues is the premise that 50% of Floridians don't pay the hotly discussed homeowners insurance and are in fact renters. Florida's big fat issue is the economy for those who aren't well-to-do and renting apartments.

The average rent in most Florida cities is well above $1500 a month for a one-bedroom apartment (Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach is $2500, Orlando is $1649, Tampa is $1794, St Pete is $1750 and Jacksonville is $1442) with salaries that are inequitable to cover the cost plus other necessities such as utilities, groceries, car payment/car insurance and cell phone. Average salaries in Miami/FLL/WPB are at $26 an hour, Orlando/Tampa/St Pete are at $19 an hour and Jacksonville is at $17 an hour).

The personal budgeting guidelines dictate your housing costs should not exceed 30% of your monthly income. For example the three cities with rent parked at around $1700 a month would require a salary of $5100 per month/$61,200 per year. That $19 an hour at full time in those three cities amounts to a net salary of $27,360 or $2280 per month. After paying rent at $1700, that leaves $580 to cover everything else.

Two bedroom apartments (roommates) average just above $3000 per month in Miami-FLL-WPB, Orlando-Tampa-St Pete are at $2000 per month). Again using the three same cities as an example (Orl-Tpa-StPete) $1000 per roommate versus $2280 leaves $1280 to cover all expenses and is at almost 50% of income versus the suggested 30%.

Neither scenario is attractive to most with one not sufficient to live on and the other a hamster wheel existence of just getting by once all is said and done each month. That folks is the elephant in the room.

I moved from Mass and have never looked back. Was a democrat but changes my party affiliation quickly after moving to Florida. Greater freedoms are here in the sunshine state.
As far as insurance I feel it .......BUT we recently had a lil ol' bag of wind 2 years ago which wreaked havoc along the gulf coast. So the insurance companies had to raise their rates , that's economics. In addition , drivers really suck down here. Drive on 75 / 4 or 95 just for 10 miles and see how many near misses you see. I'm guessing there are 10 million registered motor vehicles in Florida , if you just take 1% of that daily for accidents viola.......higher car insurance rates. Supply and demand

All mainstream national news outlets have an extreme left wing bias, both network and cable.

That is NOT the point. The point is, this article from NBC was only about people leaving Florida, primarily over cost. The NBC article was not mainly from a political perspective. They mentioned political contentiousness as a reason for people leaving, but even NBC did not suggest that as a main reason.

So while NBC has an extreme left wing bias and always helps Democrats, this particular article is not really that biased at all.

It is the OP who intentionally chose to lie about the title of the article.

I disagree that NBC has gone far left just to keep viewership. The decline in viewership was CAUSED by NBC's extreme leftist bias and support for Democrats and loyal opposition to Republicans. It is a cause, not an effect. NBC has been hard left for decades and quit even trying to hide it at least since Obama was elected and probably closer to the Bush/Gore hanging chads election.

It's the downside of all places attractive to outsiders. Just like Californian money has thrown the local housing economies of many Western states out of whack, NE corridor money has done the same from Charleston southward.
