I'm just wondering how many of you let your dogs sleep with you?

(I tried to create a poll but it doesn't seem to be working).
Never ever. And not allowed on furniture either. I have cleaned the house, vacuumed floors and replaced ac filters.guarantee dander and hair will be found. Dogs n cats step on their poo n pii, and ours occasionally slobbers. I don’t care what you say, they are not cleaner than most humans. I cannot see that on your bed or pillow where you put your face. Ugh

i had a friend with two dogs and two cats. She would only ever get animals in pairs so they would have a companion. whenever we visited her house the first thing she asked was "is there an odor" because she was meticulous about not wanting to have odor regarding her pets, but she fully admitted that living with them she could not detect the odor herself. So whenever anyone visited she asked them that right away when they entered her house.

My current dog will not sleep in my bed. She wants no part of it. My previous dog would not sleep anywhere else. He stared at me for 3 years until I relented and let him in.

100% in agreement. Mine is also a miniature poodle and to those who say they smell, don't forget that poodles are groomed and bathed regularly and smell gorgeous! I'd hazard a guess, that dogs that smell have fur, aren't bathed very often, and probably not as often as poodles.

JBGusa - She has the sweetest nature and despite me having to stick my finger in her mouth to remove twigs that she likes to pick up, she has never bitten me.

Time for walkies..

Everyone is free to do as they chose, obviously. But I do have a question for dog owners who own dogs larger than a lap dog. Do you seat your guest on the same couch where your dog or dogs sleep? Are you not concerned about the guests getting hair on their clothes? Do you actually buy furniture specific for the dogs?

I don’t allow my dogs on the beds or sofas, however they will sneak up there from time to time and my daughter will invite them up when she’s napping, which irritates me.

Sofa / loveseat are leather so fur easily vacuums up.

They also ride in the cab of my truck especially during bird season. My friends don’t care because they all have dogs and do the same thing.

We consider dog hair a ‘fashion accessory’.

My two rescues sleep with me. Usually. Sometimes, one or the other will opt to sleep elsewhere. Neither shed, so stray hair/fir is not an issue. I have an old blanket on the leather couch and another on the bed in case their paws are wet or dirty.

Thanks for the reply. I can see it with a leather couch, and you do not appear to encourage the dogs to get on the sofa. But not everyone is a dog person and even on a leather couch a dog who routinely gets on the couch will probably try to do that with company sitting there too and that's over the line IMO.

I have a truck dedicated to taking my dog out. The wife or anyone else won't even get it it because it smells like a wet dog.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but you mentioned couches. I was at a seminar in someone’s living room with about 30 people there. The host had a golden retriever that went around the room and a circle putting his head in peoples laps to be petted. I was a bit surprised because golden retrievers are generally reputed to be not safe dogs.

Well, I normally clean up the house (which includes vacuuming, sweeping, adjusting cushions and removing hair from the couch or chairs) if guests are expected. It is mostly moot because most if not all my houseguests are already inoculated with dog/cat hair from their own house. If I'm not sure, I always ask if they care. It is very easy to toss a sheet or throw on their seat if they do. I have a collection of hair-resistant things on hand...because (wait for it) I have pets!

BTW, my dogs are all trained to wait for an invitation to share bed or sofa. They don't help themselves. Once in a while if someone makes an incorrect assumption, they'll also remove themselves on command.
