I would not celebrate the loss of a subtropical paradise landscape if I were you. Why would you want a borderline tropical paradise landscape to be downgraded to something more continental? I know if I lived where you lived, nothing would excite me more than to have the tropical plants growing further and further north. Why you want the epic cold outbreaks of the 1980’s to kill all those poor plants off is beyond me
Great, just ****ing great, you just had to give me one good reason to not want to go back to Indianapolis area after a month long reprieve in Subtropical Fort Worth TexasI guess I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed that the worst of the arctic outbreak stays away from the Indianapolis area, for now, I guess I will enjoy the warmer weather down here along with family and the change in scenery
1am wow those winds are ripping outside. Gusting over 35mph frequently.
Snowflakes flying
I knew it was a tight gradient. 978mb storm east of Nova Scotia. High Pressure moving in. And jet stream winds strongest over the region at base of trough.

The forecast was updated to include the mention of some
sprinkles or flurries over CT and eastern LI as shortwave energy
interacts with sufficient moisture. Other minor adjustments were
made as well. Cold advection underway is supporting gusty
conditions for the overnight hours with wind chills in the teens
and 20s.
A tight pressure gradient will remain as low pressure in the
Canadian Maritimes is slow to depart and high pressure begins to
build in from the west
Overnight as the high begins to build eastward, winds gradually
begin to weaken allowing for ideal radiational cooling
conditions. Temperatures will be widespread in the teens to mid
20s.

For years peeps have grown tropical stuff well north of where they should. And every few years they all get killed back when the temps get below 28f. Back in the 80's with all the super freezes everything got killed after a low of 19 and 21 and 23 year after year. I see more coconut palms planted more and more north and one day if we ever get back to 26f or lower they will all be gone.
I really don't want anything below 35f. But the weather that comes with the super cold is what i love, windy and heavy rain. So far this month has been cloudy and cool with plenty of rain and i can live with pattern every winter. Lows of 42 is the lowest i have had and highs are around 66 to 72 so far this month.
I just hate boring flat winters with no rain and 80's and all sunshine everyday.
South St Pete is the normal cut off for coconut palms as the area has water on 3 sides and the temps are about like Miami.
