Did you see northern Maine?? Record amounts of snow since November. They have been getting hit hard. And they're getting rain today on it. Say hello to a crusty ice layer after today.

from the Mt. Washington Observatory. Warm air already there at 4300 feet, maybe that's the "low level jet" in the diagram. Cold air damming below and just not filtering down below yet.

Finally....someone posting maps! Nice to see!! Team work. I like seeing other areas too! I don't get paid to post so it's nice to come in here and read & look at maps once in a while.

Todays upper height anomaly.

Next weeks upper height anomaly. Another "rain"storm.

Decembers might as well be called a spring month. lol. 570 heights over this area. Ugh.

Forecast for December 30th. The northern Great Plains may see temperatures as low as -30 ° C. I think it's time for ice fishing.

According to the anomoly of December 29.

See anything? Not including todays rain,.

Hint: Wilmington

IEM :: Map of Daily NWS CLImage reports

And there are other stations within the state with triple digit precip numbers. Even eliminating the 2 feet of rain from the hurricane, they're still at record levels I believe.

North Myrtle Beach nearby has less than 70" but normal is 50". Just a matter of where the jackpot zones are at any given point.
