really warm mid-levels 850 hPa / about 4500 feet. Above 10°C in New England tomorrow with 2+ inches of rain. RIP New England mountain snowpack.
coastal New England forecast forecast to get gusts up to 55 mph. Squally! Not a true 'Noreaster as the track is too inland… and the wind is coming from the south. Diagram of the storm dynamic:
from the Mt. Washington Observatory. Warm air already there at 4300 feet, maybe that's the "low level jet" in the diagram. Cold air damming below and just not filtering down below yet.
Classic Omega (double omega almost) pattern. Very nice to see it now and then.
And there are other stations within the state with triple digit precip numbers. Even eliminating the 2 feet of rain from the hurricane, they're still at record levels I believe.
North Myrtle Beach nearby has less than 70" but normal is 50". Just a matter of where the jackpot zones are at any given point.
Wow the 100" of rain are almost tropical rainforest totals.
This plentiful rain is the reason why settlement was rapid and why America grew so quickly with immigrants, historically at least. The lower rainfall rates out west were stumbling blocks until irrigation systems could be developed.

Like back in the day before cars and planes, settlers were coming with horses and would of seen abundance of water around. People love to settling near rivers, lakes and water sources. They have been at normal or higher than normal levels all year in the East.
Here are a few more totals. North Carolina wins but pretty much everyone in left column is a Top 3
Absolutely gorgeous day! Partly cloudy but I’d say more sunny than cloudy! Currently 63 and very windy, briefly dipped below 70 in the morning hours but rest of night above 60 and the high of 65 for yesterday wasn’t reached till 8 at night where it stayed till midnight.
I don't know alot about it, heard it in Alaska a few times. I believe it's related to the RRR. Warm ridge builds in Alaska, cold air rushed from arctic to the eastern 2/3rds.
Here comes the BUT....... In Spring I prefer one like mid April 2016. Ridge, not trough over us.

This week features an Omega Block pattern with the ridge popping north to Eastern Canada.
Accuweather Paulie P's blog yesterday...
""Its amazing how an Omega ridge can completely blow up a pattern and create some extremes across an area. For the end of April we will get to see that in action, as an Omega Block builds over the southeastern United States rather rapidly on the 28th.
The first and most obvious impact will be some significant heat building into the eastern U.S. While the modeling has backed off on the strength of the ridging since yesterday, it should still be a warm end of the month for anyone located from Mississippi on north and east of the Appalachians. The biggest departures will be right where you expect, just east of the peak of the ridge, from the Virginias to Quebec. While records looked threatened yesterday, the tamer model solutions today would indicate records will be a bit out of reach but still stand a chance.
Whenever you have an Omega Block, troughs are allowed to deepen down and upstream, resulting in the pattern turning much more dynamic and slowing down. While the East is warming up, a large trough will build into the western U.S., pushing shortwaves into the ridge and resulting in a series of low pressure systems delivering round after round of severe weather.."
In short, Omega block is a blocked pattern thanks to the North Atlantic Blocking (NAO) and the Jet stream becomes like an accordion closing up over the U.S.
Question is... which Omega block do you prefer?
