love truffaut's films. when i read his name i can see his face thanks to his role in close encounters of the third kind. i didn't know that about the cycle - only saw 400 blows so far. i'll have to check those out, thanks.

Enough Said, with Julia-Louis Dreyfus and the late James Gandolfini, and the always-wonderful Catherine Keener; two terrific performances in a very terrific film, not to mention a scintillating script from the film's director, Nicole Holofcener.

In the theater: Gravity. I liked it...it was a simple story of survival and the ending is ambiguous.

On TV: Jane Eyre (2011). I've seen it like five times and adore it. Michael Fassbender probably has a lot to do with that...haha.

the red violin (1998). finally saw this. bumped it to the top of my netflix queue and i liked it. the beginning and the middle. the later part, with s.L. jackson kind of took the story away from where i though the movie was going. i liked the historical lead in and the violin maker's wife and the fortune teller and the orphanage and the gypsy grave robbers and the pope's and the pope's chinese opium assistant and taking the violin to the chinese pawn shop and the lady getting it for her daughter and she grows up during mao's cultural revolution and saves the violin, but the modern day story line kind of spoiled it for me. jackson steals the violin. what kind of message does that give? i don't see the justification, even though he's giving it to his daughter. again, imho and ymmv. i gave it 3 out of 5 stars on netflix' rating.

"Session 9". It wasn't bad. Not scary or gory.

Philadelphia (1993). Politically-correct, sanctimonious, pretentious drivel with stereotypical one-dimensional characters. Tom Hanks coughs a little to show that he had AIDS and he won an Oscar for it. Please.
