Trafic (1971). Directed by and starring Jacques Tati (as Mr. Hulot). Fourth and last film of the Hulot series. If you're familiar with his films, you'll know to keep an eye on every corner of each shot as subsequent shots continue the action with (little to) no breaks and from different angles. Several running gags - PR lady's dog. Especially when the passing group of what look like hippies (they do date the film with Apollo 11 moon landing TV footage) take her shaggy dog and put a shaggy vest under her car's tires so it looks like she ran him over it. Then later you see the guy hugging himself because he's missing his vest off in the corner of one shot. The whole set of scenes at the garage along the canal was hilarious and the best part of the film complete with slow motion moon walking pantomime by the driver and mechanic. I give it 3.8 stars out of 5.
Gregory's Girl (1981), Directed by Bill Forsyth (Local Hero 1983). Watched it on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). No commercial interruptions, by the way. As always, oustanding intro by Robert Osborne who revealed that during the last scene Gregory and Susan had trouble with it as they had no natural attraction to each other, so they were provided with alchohol (both were 19). Outstanding coming of age film. Especially the date that was passed on to another date and ultimately to THE date. Classic. I can see where Wes Anderson got his domineering 10 year old sister for his first movie Bottle Rocket (1996). Has to be a homage. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
