LOL, I love that you added it was on VHS. I still have a ton of VHS tapes. I just watched a documentary "Whores' Glory" about brothels in Thailand, Bangladesh & Mexico. Pretty dirty.
The Conjuring. Well done, creepy "less is more" effects. I love these kind of movies. Towards the end though it got a little "out there" for me however. Overall I did like it and will count it as one of my favorite scary movies.
Today the husband watched world war Z nope could not sit down and watch it and also he watched now you see me now you dont ...blech both are what I would classify as guy flicks
The Roaring Twenties (1939). Directed by Raoul Walsh (They Drive by Night, High Sierra, They Died with their Boots On, White Heat), starring James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. Superb. 4.1 of 5 stars. Famous last line in a movie: he used to be a big shot.
Oh, I recently watched Parkland. It has gotten so-so reviews, but I was absolutely mesmerized by it.
I rented it from a Redbox, and didn't even pause it for a minute, I got so wrapped up in it.
I was only three when Kennedy was shot, but of course I've grown up with the images and story about that day that we all know. This was told from some angles that I didn't know about. Paul Giamatti is really effective as the man that, inadvertantly, took the widely-used video of the assasination. He brings a human aspect to the burden of having this very important, but violent footage; and his desire to have it treated in a dignified manner. It also gives the perspective of the hospital workers, tasked with trying to save the President, and the deep pain of the Secret Service who had to deal with their failure to "protect" their man.
I got choked up a time or two; I had a sense of what the nation was feeling that day, regardless of politics. It's the way I felt on 9-11. Better than most of the crap movies out there anyway, check it out.
Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner (2002). 3.8 out of 5 stars. Facinating story / legend. Keep the remote handy as it's 172 minutes.
