Two good movies to watch at Thanksgiving:

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) --

Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970) -- Great book and great movie! Why isn't it on DVD????

Apparently there are 2 versions: the theatrical and the TV version. Please put both on DVD!

The Book Thief: A-. Wonderful acting by the unknown young lead girl, Sophie Nelisse. She was very expressive, and I was impressed by how they aged her throughout the film - by the end she really did act five years older. Good acting all around, with Emily Watson as the (step) mother and Geoffrey Rush as the father. Many criticize too much plot being crammed into the movie, especially the last third, but I enjoyed the plot, so not a big deal. Recommended.

The Internship: B. I like how they contrast the laid back upbringing of Wilson and Vaughn's generation, from the 80's and early 90's, with the hypercompetitive culture that pervades the current college students (in the better schools, anyway). Aasif Mandvi was perfect - he should have more big comedic roles. Some of the jokes were pretty lame and boilerplate though. I hate when the comedy seems written by committee, like you can hear the studio say "you can have two gratuitous anal sex references, but not three."

The Way Way Back: D-. Atrocious. No likeable characters, dialogue that wants to be clever but really, truly, isn't, but just gets constantly shoved in your face. No I didn't finish it, I have better things to do with my life and so do you.

Just saw Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds......... meh.

For some reason I've always liked Reynolds despite hollywood constantly trying to make him a bigger star then he really is, but I figured him together in a movie with Denzel had real good potential but nah... it was average.

It was your run of the mill action movie.... I felt though that I had to turn the volume up WAY high at times because the vocals were just so low.. and it seemed as if they whispered all the time. The background noise and the guns and explosions is all you heard.. so it was hard to follow.

Philomena which was good. I hope Judi Dench wins both Golden Globe and Oscar. She's such a phenomenal actor.
