"After Earth"
The movie had good intentions, but it dragged on without any turning points in the plot, at least not any exciting ones. Will Smith should leave screenwriting to the real writers.
Smokin Aces 2. Just as violent as the 1st but the 1st had a slightly better story. Before that it was Silent Hill Revelation. Sucked as much as the 1st. I guess you have to be a fan of the game to enjoy or even understand it
I watched A Band Called Death. It's a documentary about arguably the first punk band, black teens from Detroit. It was a family story, a music story and a bit spiritual. Definitely worth a watch. Here is one of their songs:
and The Rock wore the same tight underarmor shirt in both movies and wears it in his tv show the hero. Just thought Id point that out. Both movies were a huge dissapointment.
"Margin Call" - it was pretty good. Has a great cast: Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Paul Bettany, Demi Moore, Zachary Quinto...
The Giant Mechanical Man (a romantic comedy. Starring Jenna Fischer from The Office, but still low-key and fairly indy).
Rid Of Me---an indy film taking place in Portland---where a woman moves back with her husband who grew up there. She has to deal with his frat-boy type friends and their Stepford wives. Finally she rebels and goes grunge/punk/alternative.
Mental, an Aussie film starring Toni Collette. Definitely a dark comedy that looks at who are the ones with a psychiatric disorder: the so-called normals/neurotypicals or the people who see and live life in a different way? The funniest Sound of Music scenes in it ever...
This weekend we saw Vinterberg's 2012 Danish film, Jagten ("The Hunt").
(Note: Nope, I'm not adding spoilers... any plot reveals are on the DVD box and/or sites such as imdb & Wiki).
It is a wonderful film (best acting award at Cannes to the lead actor, Mads Mikkelsen) with difficult subject matter... a kindergarten teacher wrongly accused of misappropriations with a young student. Normally, I'd nix it as I can't bear to watch/listen to stories which revolve around missing/abused/hurt children, but this film wisely steers away from any scenes with, for instance, crying children & focuses on the adults' behavior in this small town.
The movie is incredibly well acted by all & both of us were on the edge of our seats throughout due to the fast pace & the many interesting characters involved. The dignity of the main character was the most heartbreaking as he attempts to defend himself. There was enough suspense to keep one comfortably on edge... I dislike movies which make me uncomfortable & feeling bad for discomfort's sake & the filmmaker's amusement (ahem... Tarantino)... this film wasn't one of those, although fair enough that some may be disturbed by any subject matter within the realm.
There is some room for interpretation within the film (although, not of the main character's innocence), particularly the ending. Definitely food for thought in provoking us to question our own humanity & loyalty, particularly for those with more adverse viewpoints... either those with a vigilante justice bent or the opposite.
Danish with English subtitles.
Brilliant film. 5* out of 5.
