Novovax will probably get approved here but they will be too late to the party.
The Novavax vaccine is more traditional "subunit" vaccine where they innoculate with the antigen (spike protein here). That approach has a slower development process. They will likely be the last of the major western vaccines to be ready, but since supply seems to be short, there could still be an opportunity for them if they can perform close in efficacy/side effects to the two mRNA vaccines.

I thought you can still transmit the disease with Moderna/Pfizer too. Where did you see evidence that says otherwise?

This is the kind of emergency notification system we need in MA. From what I understand, several thousands of doses sent to BMC went to waste in Phase 1.

"They" seemed to be backing off of this idea although that might be because it's NBD if you "catch" it even for high risk once vaccinated.

As I said there was some encouraging data out in December where one study group had a 65% lower chance of infection after just the first dose, but without any real certainty. Haven't heard anything since then, hopefully as more and more people get it that will give us larger sample sizes and a better idea. Also how "long" this supposed immunity will be good for?

They (CDC, Fauchi, etc) seem to be backing off on the idea that vaccinated can spread it. TBH I always found it sketchy about the idea that asymptomatic could spread it, it's just an issue that there's a long incubation time with this virus.

Like everything else, insufficient data. They didn’t test everyone in the trials weekly. It’s impossible to distinguish between immune and infected but asymptomatic without testing frequently. Given how important this knowledge is, it’s a travesty that the government didn’t capture this data during the trials.

This is a hopeful sign - clearly Moderna has been able to increase production output in product volume, and it looks like they want to streamline distribution of that increase. This would be 50% more product per vial - a big increase.

This is going to lead to further confusion. The point of vaccination is not prevent catching it but to prevent dying from it. If the vaccination attempts lower the death rate and ultimately it should that is the primary goal.

Now it's some might argue is that why should we have a vaccine for something if we didn't catch it and we're relatively healthy to the point where we're probably not going to die from it. The argument for that of course though is that those that are not as healthy can still potentially die from it and unfortunately these statistics keep creeping lower and lower two people that have lower immunity systems.

I drive my car and I wear a seatbelt. I don't have to be told by a police officer to wear my seatbelt because I've actually seen car accidents. I've never been at fault for any car accident I've only had two one of which I was in my car. Likewise with this once I'm able to get the vaccine I will get it. If I get coronavirus after getting the vaccine while then I'll just work at home for a while.

My main take away is that 65 year old members of the ruling class have received 2 doses of the vaccine while vulnerable elderly are still waiting their first doses.
