Lawson Pub has changed hands a thousand times in the last 15 years.
It's vacant right now.
Whistle Stop(the coffee shop, not the cheese cake place) is now a Subway.
Lawson Deli is still open, changed hands a few times.
Cricket Inn became a medical/professional building, I think it's vacant, or at least it was for a while. Adjacent Chinese restaurant is still there.
Remember "Al's Pottery" ? Where exactly was that on "Long Beach Rd", I was walking along the Board Walk at Long Beach today remembering the old "Speaks" bar back in 1980...I had my wife (my G/F back then w/ me) and my children with me 7 yrs old and 2-1/2 yrs old, and all of a sudden I realized that in a moment I just aged, I stepped through a time warp or something.. Where is that little park that used to be on the board walk ? Where's the "Pinball" and Video place that I used to go in all stoned out and buzzed on Beer, they have this cool new game called "Battle Zone" !

My Grandmother was born in Oceanside - Hellen (Daly) Mott My Great Grandmother Georgeanna Daly lived on Nassua Parkway Right where the ER enterance today. The house is to the left of the enterance. The enterance itself used to be a farm I played there as a child. My Uncle was a Judge in Oceanside Judge John Daly there was a deli on Nassua Pkway I went there to get 50 cents worth of cheese - that how we order then. 36 years ago I had my wedding receptiom in oceanside fire dept.
Wow, I had Mrs. Garfield, Mrs. Lehrer & Mrs. Cohen!! When I was in the 6th Grade I had Lehrer, Gavin and the guy...but I don't remember his name being Mr. Whaley was it like Whalen or something...It's funny how I can still see his face in my mind and it was like 20 years ago he used to call the kids sugar plums. I felt so cool cause we got to "Change classes". Definitely remember Nathans. We must be the same age, I'll PM you. Jay Fiedler was one year older than me, he lived right around the block from me and we used to ride the bus to Boardman.
I was part of the first OHS class that wasn't allowed to go out for lunch!! It sucked because all through elementary and middle school we looked forward to the 9th grade because we go to go out. Me and my friends snuck out every day and went to Mario's Pizza, the Chinese Place next to Mario's and Henry's Deli.
There was a guy named Lustformen..I don't remember his real name..I had Cohen and Lehrer...sound familiar?
Does anyone remember the Bottle Cap Carnival that was held every year behind school #1 ( the original high school)? I remember collecting bottle caps all summer. I guess we were recycling long before it became popular.
That was the event of my life back then. I used to go out looking with my mom.
I lived in Ocean Harbor not long after that area was built up back in the early 60's. Bused to Boardman for elementary and junior high. Yes, I did attend Treasure Island Day Camp circa 1964-66 well before they started building Oceanside Park and the road to the park. The area behind the old TSS shopping center was swamp and undeveloped. The shopping center at LBR and Daly Blvd. was the garbage dump! I left for the DC area to go to college in the early 70s and returned only to pack my stuff and head back to DC where I am now. My folks left in the early 80s and I haven't been back in over 20 years however in my travels I have bumped into folks who live in O'side or recently lived there and they tell me it just isn't the same place as when I grew up. Oceanside in the 60s and 70s was a great place to live and grow. Maybe someday I'll pay a return visit and see what's old, new and long gone. Reading these posts has rekindled fond and vivid memories of the Oceanside of my youth!! Thanks for sharing!
