We are thinking about buying a home in Oceanside. We rent in Long Beach and commute to Manhattan. We want to buy a house in a family area. We love Garden City but our price range is $600k to $650k. We want really good schools, neighborhoods and easy commute into the city. Is Oceanside a good second choice? We can get much more for our money there than Garden City. Any other places in Nassau County we should consider?

I've heard that Oceanside has been going downhill these days but it's certainly not a bad place to live.. just probably less desirable than it was twenty years ago. (My family lived in O-side in the early 80's).

I recommend Carle Place. It's close to Garden City and you can get something really nice for $600K-$650K.
I've also been hearing good things about Lynbrook..if the South Shore is appealing to you.

Don't waste your money.
Oceanside is sliding downhill steadily.
