I think a lot of people move to FL from everywhere for a new life, a more satisfying life than wherever they came from. If it proves not to be so, they act out or fall apart. Just like California used to be.

"Florida father accused of killing teen son with angle grinder" - oh, no... "The grandfather told investigators it was not uncommon for the suspect, who has used methamphetamine since high school, to have psychotic episodes and make 'bizarre' comments."

Not originally from Florida.... and that the whole point. Maybe the murdered young man was.

This seems to be what is happening to several neighbors who moved to my area in the past 3 years. There seems to be this illusion that moving to Florida will fix everything for them, and there is some special happiness and "freedom" that they will gain by being in Florida. The schools are the best, the beach is in your backyard, all activities are free and without state and local fees for access/licensing, and we are all either retirees living life or semi-pro beach bums who have a job but is secondary to watching the sunset over the ocean.

The reality is most people are not relocating from NYC or Los Angeles so there is no "extra" freedom or change outside of no snow and addition of lots of humidity. Life does not change magically for you, the beach is still a pain to get to, it's still expensive to visit theme parks, traffic still sucks, and you're adding a HOT HOT HOT Steam bath for 6 months out of the year. It can be too much for people to handle. And if you have high school kids you may have brought them to a place that underpays and is not the easiest to get a career going and afford to live here. So that nice new home in Florida that you bought to retire in when the kids graduate will still have the kids living there with you for years.

Florida has always been a weird place with drugs running rampant in every county, crazy "Florida Man" people that serve as entertainment for locals like me but don't mix well with the newer arrivals, big pockets of child molesters and rapist communities scattered in the middle of the state that new arrivals are unaware of, and cost of living here will surprise you if you were sold on Florida being a cheap place.

Florida is in transition right now and it's unclear where the state will end up.

Population of Florida: 21.78 Million (as of 2021)

minus "the 1 million other people you just don't pay attention to"

equals -

20.78 million crazy, angry people.

Yeah that tracks.

Not everyone got the memo on California. We have a younger relative who thinks getting away from where she is living now and moving to California will solve all her many problems. She’s in for a sad reality check.

I don't know about the rest of Florida, but I lived in Miami-Dade for 43 years. I believe that some of the reasons for peoples' anger, impatience, rudeness include: the endless heat, heavy traffic, crowds just about everywhere, bad drivers who dare you to hit them, the heat, worries about paying their bills (high insurance rates), the threat of a hurricane nearby, the heat, the lack of a feeling of community, the chaotic vibe of the area, possible language barriers, a job that requires working in the heat and little pay, the lack of hospitality and welcome, and the endless heat.

well that sucks up everyone else's excuse....

so what's their excuse in all the other parts of the country?

because Florida certainly does not have this market cornered
