Because most of them come from the Northeast, where they were already crazy and angry.

The angry ones probably couldn't afford the high cost of living in the NE anymore where there are better hospitals, low crime, less crowded suburbs, and no oppressive heat for 8-9 months out of the year like Florida has. They moved to Florida for the cheap way out and are unhappy, no wonder they are angry in Florida

The lastest couple I know who moved to Florida last year is very unhappy they left suburban NY for Florida.

The unrelenting heat and humidity for 9 months alone would make ANYONE angry.

The northeast isn't that much more expensive than Florida. Of course if you move to a leafy suburb outside Boston, New York City or Philadelphia's Main Line... you will pay. But there are plenty of areas that are just as cheap/cheaper than Florida, especially when you factor in wages, it becomes cheaper. Some of those areas include South Jersey, Central Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Western New Jersey, NE PA, 95% of NYS outside LI/NYC/Westchester/Dutchess Counties.

I can totally see why someone would like Florida. But I can absolutely see why so many don't and either don't move there or slingshot back up. The 10 years I lived in Florida were the 10 years I spent the least amount of time outside. I average about 18,000-24,000 steps a day now, am at the beach twice a week in the summer, I ski in the winter, go on many hikes (since NJ has a damn state park every two feet ffs!), and will sporadically walk around random walkable cities like Ridgewood, Hoboken, Morristown, Jersey City and Edgewater when I get home from work. You are constantly active in the Northeast between the summer months with beaches, fall and spring with hiking and the winter with skiing and other recreation. You get it all and then some.
All of these are within 30 minutes of me:

I get it- a lot of people can't be active. I'm 26 years old, so I have energy even though I supposedly have Multiple Sclerosis. Florida is that nice medium where you don't have to worry about putting heavy clothes on to go be active, or maybe you just like the heat. To each their own!

Also- I found living in Florida (Orlando) that people were way more rude than they are in Boston, Central Connecticut or Jersey.

Mostly Southerners where I live and they’re pretty crazy and angry themselves.

Rains in spurts in Florida. NY hasn’t had a nice weekend in two months. That’s miserable.

Remember, many, if not most of those crazy people came there from somewhere else, usually another state. At least that was my experience. In Daytona, lord, we had so many crazy people coming there JUST to go crazy. Black College reunion, Biketoberfast, Bike Week (which was actually more like Bike Weeks), Spring Break (which was a lot bigger in other Florida cities), and on and on. Sometimes it was very difficult to meet an actual Florida native in Florida. The angry people I seldom met. Most people were happy to be on the beach and in the water. But there were some people that weren't happy anywhere. Mostly old Yankees grumbling about how they didn't do things like they did back home.

Old thread but yeah ^^^^^^ this is spot on.

Pizza/bagels are better back home.........good, I95 north is your route!

Culture/museums - I like to ask were you a annual pass holder? Did you go to broadway shows regularly? Usually the answer is no, hadn't been to anything in years. So why is that a concern? You didn't go anyway!

I think some people just like to complain: In NY.........oh its going to be awesome in Flariduh, in FL "Oh NY was so much better".........not happy regardless of the zip code.

I had a buddy like that, lived in the suburbs of Chicago (30 mins+) yet Chicago was the holy grail. He moved to Florida but Chicago was "it" then moved to Georgia, so much better than Florida then on to Texas where everything is bigger and better. His employment issues never changed, he was constantly looking for a new job. Your problems follow you to your new zip code......
