To me it just looks like the thing will hit an Appalachian/Ozarks brick wall and head no further. Very sharp colour shift, not much light green.

At the end of January I will likely be visiting in NE Minnesota, so -40C temperatures are certainly not out of the question by then.

Yeah everything north of that line could be in for some really rude temperatures by the looks of things!

0Z GFS run will be interesting, to see if the cold air is extreme as the 12Z run from today. 18Z GFS not nearly intense, but likely just some details lacking on exactly how cold it will be. Enjoy the snow, hoping I'll get some too closer to Ohio River. It will start off milder, though.

Still no 30's for my area and none looking down the road anytime soon. This dip won't get down my way. If we don't get any 30's soon this could be another winter with no cold temps.

Makes me happy looking at Florida and seeing cold temps and frosty areas. But with all the 80s this month they're still above normal
