My ancestry is primarily Spanish, Dutch and Italian. Has zero bearing on my weather preferences lol. Though I do love springtime and tulips are my favourite flowers. Dutch summers are too cool and winters too warm and don't even get me started on Spain and Italy lol. I must have been Russian in a past life.

In the winter up north the night is longer, that's what I'm talking about in regards to dark *long* nights.

For most people that work, up north in the winter they have to drive to work in the dark and they have to come back from work in the dark as well. In contrast in the south even in the winter you have at least some twilight in the evening to get a few things done around the house.
The sun sets around 5ish now in late January. Early sunsets aren't that big a deal. I like the variation of the sunrises/sets. I like those long summer days too.

It sets around 6 down south right now. So I get an hour more in the evening than you guys.

Yeah part of me is Irish and I dislike the cool rainy weather of Ireland. It probably is unrelated.

Very few places get that hot *ever*. Even Death Valley or Dallol has a tough time busting 130.

Usually places in the Middle East are low 100's up to maybe 110 (talking averages here). Not really that bad considering the very low humidity. If you dress for it (light reflective loose clothing) you can be very comfortable in that heat. Also, the late evenings are usually quite pleasant and that's when most people are out and about.

It's hazy as balls today.

This is what happens in Manhattan when you combine warm temps, overcast skies, high humidity, and calm winds.

That aside, NWS gives an interesting message due to the gov't shutdown: http://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KNYC.html

It's easier to dress for the cold. And isn't the Persian gulf really humid too, plus triple digies? Dry weather ain't all that great. In fact my least favourite thing about MN winter is the dryness.

Long range models bring back the death ridge over the west into Feb. The pattern looks even more amplified than Feb 2015, I thought that was supposed to be a 1/100 year event?

A report of wind damage southeast of Alexandria. Two tornado reports around the LA/TX border.
