He mentions the Jet stream dipping over East Asia will send out a pulse and weaken the Vortex.

Then he also mentions the Stratosphere. When the stratosphere suddenly warms (SSW) it has a fundamental impact on the weather pattern. That's physics. It basically disrupts the Polar Vortex.

Here's a look at the current Stratosphere temp.. Record cold early January but past few days it's warmed fast! To near normal now. But not a "major" event yet...

And No coincidence we had Cold & Snowy Feb-March last year

This would be epic if it did happen

Impressive snowstorm over Southeastern China, accumulations up to 25 inches west of Shanghai, at the same latitude as Jacksonville, crazy.

I've only been here a few months but yeah I definitely need to move somewhere warmer. Singapore sounds more pleasant.

I think my thinking will hold for Eastern U.S.. You on the other hand...maybe a "get ready" is needed.

By god this is just amazing. Record cold to record cold? Is it possible to have 2 extremely anomalous record cold periods? I personally think the cold will be farther west however and the east may see a bit of warmups in between as the southeast ridge tries to nose its way threw.

Only epic until you get a record cold march and april and are complaining the cold wont leave. Then you will complain about the resultant cold summer. How about we skip the polar vortex

2015 had a near record cold March, cold April, and warm May. So cold spring might not result in a cold summer

George, what am I missing here? Doesn't polar vortex almost always choose to come down over North America? I mean what the heck was 2014 and 2015?

When was the last time Europe had a lobe of the vortex sitting right over them say in France? I'd love nothing more than to see a place like Nice go down into the lower teens with days below freezing. I would love that.
