Again, there is no evidence of this. Frankly we have just about as many cases now as we did in late March... so it seems obvious the sheltering is doing very little

In Massachusetts? On March 28 there were 4257 cases and 44 deaths. As of yesterday there were 53,348 cases and 2730 deaths

Given all the people in MA that isn’t that much. I’m not minimizing and of course I’d feel bad if it was my loved one but the situation could be far worse.

We have the 15th largest population but the 4th highest number of deaths to coronavirus.

Had we not shut down yes, it would have been worse. But we also shut down at least 2 weeks too late.

And honestly, I'd question the "shut down". I had to drive into my workplace yesterday (essential business...and it was the first time I'd gone there in a month)...from the Burlington area to the Rt 3/495 interchange area. I was disheartened to see the amount of traffic, on both highways and side roads. It's almost as if people are getting tired and impatient and heading out just to avoid going crazy. I don't know how much social isolation is taking place in private settings, but it would not surprise me if folks are "trusting" their close friends and starting to socialize.

I'm quite sure this is taking place everywhere, frankly.

Yes. No sooner had I posted my reply, that I saw this article on "quarantine fatigue" in today's Globe:

It sounds like California and other countries did a better job the MA did. I think MA leadership was too liberal. And worried about screwing up the economy which was inevitable.

I think you're right. I do think our state gov't has been level-headed, but it's now clear that the virus was circulating around Greater Boston through much of February. Santa Clara county in CA had the first fatality from the virus on Feb 6, much earlier than anyone thought...and the whole Bay area was shut down about a week or so before MA was.
