So did I, he looked pretty old when I would see him doing "TV DXing" 20+ years ago.....I thought maybe he was like 75 or 80 now. By the way, someone starting a separate thread on him.

While back I was worried this winter would bring ice storms (just because the cold air eventually would settle in but warm air still at upper layer)

Latest NAM model has an Ice storm for coastal areas Saturday. Goes from snow to rain quickly to ice.

Man oh Man I dont want to see an ice storm.

Noticed the change. Also shows it going into Sunday but turning to rain most places on Sunday as it warms up.

Now that I look at the text output... Based on last nights runs 1/2" liquid for Hartford. All snow. Using 14:1 ratios thats about 6-8" .. It's possible, but I'd drop that amount a couple inches.

We'll see if it continues to show that much liquid and that cold. Temps stay below 25 degrees the whole time for Hartford. Wow. Thats why I figured the 14:1 ratios. Might even be higher.

Euro gives little over half inch at all snow for Bridgeport but ratios would be lower because its slightly warmer at the time near 30 degrees.

Sometimes I think that even the NWS has a "wait and see how things develop" attitude. This past Monday, they had only rain in southern and coastal Connecticut, then by yesterday they seemed to be leaning toward more snow in southern CT…now they seem are going back to more rain: Here is the current discussion:

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
640 AM EST THU JAN 19 2012

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...

UNSETTLED WEATHER ON TAP FOR MUCH OF THE LONG TERM PERIOD. HIGH PRES
MOVES OFFSHORE FRIDAY EVENING...THEN A CLIPPER SYSTEM ENTERS THE
REGION LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. CHANCE POPS ENTER THE AREA AFTER
MIDNIGHT...BUT POPS INCREASE TO LIKELY...THEN CATEGORICAL THROUGHOUT
THE DAY SATURDAY. WITH HIGH PRES BUILDING NORTH OF THE AREA...TEMPS
SHOULD BE COLD ENOUGH FOR ALL SNOW AT THE ONSET...THEN A SURGE OF
WARMER AIR SPREADS NORTH INTO THE IMMEDIATE COAST ALLOWING FOR A
RAIN/SNOW MIX ON SATURDAY.
NAM IS MUCH WARMER THAN THE ECMWF/GFS...
BUT WILL STICK WITH AN ECMWF/GFS COMBO...WHICH PRODUCES WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY SNOWFALL ACROSS MUCH OF THE INTERIOR...AND
SUB-ADVISORY SNOWFALL ELSEWHERE.

BY SATURDAY EVENING...ENOUGH WARMER AIR MIXES IN ALOFT TO RESULT IN
A RAIN/SNOW/SLEET MIX. UNSETTLED WEATHER PERSISTS INTO SUNDAY...AND
EASTERLY FLOW WILL ALLOW TEMPS TO WARM UP ENOUGH FOR ALL RAIN BY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
.

I trust NOAA/NWS...but which is it - lol.

In any event, we seem to be on track for a warm surge starting on Mon or so :

One great thing for many this winter is that the snows wont last. Even though models dont show that torch for us anymore, temps wil warm past 40 so snow melt will happen.

GFS out right now agrees with southern Track. Sounds like we have model agreement. This will be the first Watch / Warning snowstorm since October.

I wont be starting a new thread since it's under 8 inches but I hope people are reading all this so they dont get caught and can make plans accordingly.

Should start Friday Night and end Saturday Afternoon.

Also... dont forget...small clipper with 1-3" tonight after 7pm.

There are flurries falling right now here on the coast east of New Haven. It seems to be melting on contact, but temps are close to freezing.
