I was thinking the same thing. I thought New England considered 2" of snow a dusting.

Looking ahead... After the warm Saturday & Sunday and rain Monday, Chirstmas Eve and Christmas Day is looking likely to be dry and cold.

Here's GFS on left, Euro on right. Both agree on the High Pressure over us. Freezing line down to Mid Atlantic States.

As expected, most schools are closed today due to the timing of the 2-4 inches. Usually, if a town decides to close schools for weather, all the town's schools are closed.

People will still be out and about tomorrow, its just that schools are considering closing to keep kids and folks driving them safe. Colleges and high schools should remain open. I think elementary should close but only if I see the radar bulk up and timing .
Most districts are not allowed to close just the elementary schools, partially has to do with logistics (busing, parents who have say 1 HS kid and one ES kid, etc.) and partially with union agreements.

Some Fairfield County schools are still open. I advise checking first before leaving.

There's a coating to 1/2" of snow on the roads already from a cold night. It's about safety, not location labels.. Businesses & shopping still open. This isn't the south but again... maybe its the salt we use on the roads.... the roads are slick instantly so heads up

Every town but Greenwich, Stamford and Westport are closed.

Roads just glazed over here.. Greenwich is doing a 1/2 early dismissal day, k-5 gets out early 6-12 has a regular day. Who the heck is running the ship over there? I guess they think highschool kids are immune to snow on the roads? Yes, lets put 100+ cars on the road driven by teenagers during the worst part of the storm, great idea!

I believe all Fairfield County schools except Stamford and Greenwich are closing.

In Westchester, it seems all schools north of 287 are closed and all public schools south are open (a lot of parochial schools are closed, I guess they're not subject to the 180 day rule and have to make it up so it's easier for them to close), although it is snowing and sticking here.

By the way, radar looks like that's really a small area of snow (about 100 miles across and already halfway through NYC?). Weather Channel "future radar" seems to show a lull after 9-10am and a 2nd system coming in about 2 hours later.....

NWS Boston raised the snow totals. 4-6" for northern CT so heads up. Must be the fluffy high ratio snow thing. Doesn't take much liquid to drop a lot of snow when the flakes have little moisture in them.

Yes, a break after the first snow batch then starts again after lunch. Haven't checked the end times yet but can't imagine going past this evening.
