West of albany(utica) is a far different place than albany due to the amount of snow. That lake effect shuts down quickly once you get near Albany. Syracuse airport averages 124 inches and Albany averages 59 inches.

BDL averages 40 inches. 28 at bdr. So the main difference between albany and hartford is snowfall. Albany gets quite a bit more, but op's complaint was temperature. Temperatures only a few degrees difference, but in our marginal climate that means rain here and snow up at albany. That' quite common when a low comes to close to the coast and brings ct rain, but snow farther north and west

I wasn't talking that far west- I am talking Cobleskill (I-88 corridor, maybe 40 minutes west). Like I said, I am going on pure anecdotal evidence but based on my personal experience of spending a good amount of time in both areas, I can tell you without a doubt CT has sunnier winters and spring comes quicker. I couldn't do the gray winters again.

Cambium- for real??? I am dying for a big storm. I will do the fingers crossed/snow dance until next week!

Well, look at the difference between the overnight EURO and the latest EURO

Last night, no phasing, just 1 storm going to Great Lakes. Big time Warmth and rain for us

Latest update merges and shifts storm to the coast crashing the temps and producing a big snowstorm for us.

Bottom line.... Storm is being shown. THATS ALL we need to look for right now.

Hmm..can't get the quote feature to take. Thx for all your replies. I wouldn't really be moving for the weather; work will be a deciding factor. I love CT & will probably have to stay in the northeast. Having a slightly shorter, easier winter than Albany would be the bonus!

Having lived in both the Albany area and having worked in Fairfield County (and live near it), I think mels observation about sun is the big difference. There is a temperature difference, but it's small enough that you still feel winter here, I think the big difference is really the snow, though once you get up to I-84 area (even Danbury, not just Hartford) the snow totals aren't that much lower than Albany's.

If anyone is wondering where the snow is right now, it's well south of us:

Meanwhile in Georgia and the Carolinas,

It's a Tuesday-Wednesday event.

Friday afternoon/Evening a little snow to put us back into the spirit if the cold air doesn't do it.(1-3")

Super bowl Sunday for CT I think is going to be Snow to Rain to Snow. A slop fest.

February 5th Storm showed again on the latest 18z run.

No Warm period in long range except couple pops like we did today
