Sarasota is a nice place but most of us who get to Myrtle Beach love it.
You can't beat having almost a hundred golf courses within an hour or so from your home.
Some being just five minutes away.
Its a real pleasure having greenery and flowers all year long.
As far as culture. There are many art shows around, just keep your eyes and ears open for the locations.
We have a diverse selection of music shows. There are many theaters with dance and singing. Major stars and up and coming stars.
Fun is where you look for it and where you want to enjoy it. Its all around you with water activities, jogging trails, and boating. If you find joy in a kayak, that is here too.
Enjoyment is in the heart of the beholder. Shopping and movie theaters are plentiful.
I find this area is a place where one can never be bored.
Plus I trust the doctors here and the specialist also. A well trained group of people. A blessing of a place this surely is.

I moved to Myrtle Beach 2 years ago next month, and I hate it! ! The beach and weather are great. But the crime and drugs are awful! ! Rent is very high and pay scale very low. If you can even find a job, unemployment is 9.8% now and was almost 12% over winter months. I have to say moving here from Ohio was very bad idea. We are trying to get to Tennessee as soon as we can. The saying it's a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there fits Myrtle Beach. This is the first place I have ever lived that I keep my doors locked during the day. I hope I helped.

Curious...where in MB did you move to?? Did you do any background check on the area you moved into? Rent high??? Yikes....come to NY, then we can talk high rent.

Any big "downtown" is going to have the crime and drugs. Its very unfortunate but that is what has happened to our US.

I don't see those two disasters because I don't go near those areas. Its as easy as that. Your location must be bad as doors locked all day is something we don't need to do. It is so darn peaceful where I live and it is a great place to live.
I see job signs up at lots of locations.
I'm afraid you may feel the same in Tennessee. Perhaps rent there for awhile to see how you do.
Their rent may be lower as they don't have the thrill of the ocean that many head to in Myrtle Beach.

Nobody in South Carolina cares if you don't own a gun. It's guys like you who care if somebody else decides to own a gun. We aren't in your business, it goes the other way. People are trying to ban guns, nobody is trying to force you to own one. There are plenty of people in SC who don't own guns but you seem to trade in stereotypes.

That was a mean post. Guess you don't get sarcasm either.

That person is extremely political and he is serious. He always has something negative to say about South Carolina. It is a constant campaign for him. Seems like he would move.

Last post I'll (try) to make on this subject - I think he's funny and as a South Carolinian beamed over to Texas, I can appreciate his comments about my "native" state.

to each his own. he's not my cup of tea. he's a southern version of Bill Maher, a person who isn't funny but thinks he is.

Interesting choice of words. Dr Tesla, if you are on the Myrtle Beach CD forum and you don't “get” PawleysDude, than you must not be from around these parts. Frankly, I find it hard to imagine someone not takin' a likin' to my friend PD, but I think he would be ok with you not being ate up by nice, he is a southern gentleman ya know.

We have visited a few times but not for very long and always enjoy our time here but .... I wanted to ask locals what is day to day life like in MB? Hows the culture? COL seems good? Economy I know looks a bit tough but where is'nt it tough these days? how are public schools? online ive read some hit and miss grade scores ..... I'm coming to look for work doing just about anything to get us on our feet in the area. I then plan on starting a small business that I have done for the past few years once I can feel out the area. We enjoy the beach, small town feelings, family fun nearby, and a state that lets me freely support the 2nd ammendment! (Yes I am a CWPC! and Proud!) ... So if anyone can shed some light on any of my questions I would be most grateful! Thank You!!!
I love it here, but I am not sure there is enough that is different from what you are speaking of to make it work for you (with the exception of your gun rights). You mention humidity, lack of culture, flat lands, and horrible economy. You aren’t going to find too many people who would say this is a thriving, dry, rolling hilled, cultural hot spot. Does it have other great things? Absolutely! But, it is not unlike what you described as not liking about Florida. Again, I love it here, but I love it despite those things.

I hope you will check back in and let us know what you thought after your trip.
