Light frost this morning in Austin. Currently 35 and sunny. Forecast to be 60 and sunny under sunny skies and a light west wind. The warm up begins tomorrow.
I did bring in the yellow poinsettias as they are more delicate than the pink and red ones. The yellow one was drooping last night, brought it into the 70F home and it perked right up. Now I'll keep it in the sunny window ledge until it warms above 50.
Planted a drawf yupon holly yesterday. They usually start budding in February, the berries will be a nice red color when most of the landscape is bleak.
I love those, they are native to NC. They are pretty common evergreens in landscape and the only plant native to the us that produces caffeine. Native Americans in NC make a strong tea out of it.

But global cooling won't happen in the foreseeable future. Temperature is correlated very strongly with CO2 concentration and solar minimums in the past did not affect temperature much. Global warming is the problem right now.

Incorrect. Global average temperatures are still warming. CO2 reductions will continue to be big as coal plants continue to be retired around the US and the world.
We're going into a cooling phase which is expected to last 30 or 40 years, so better prepare now. At least in a year or two they won't be able to sell the global warming as easily as now without the hard evidence to back it up.

Next 30- 40 years will be the biggest test to the Man Made Global swarming Theory. All climate indicators suggest cooling. The sun, the ocean cycles, even volcanic activity suggest a world that should enter a cooling period. We will see just how much mans impact really is.

Why I always have stated that Beijing has more broadleaf evergreens than Philly that are native. Pretty sad for us green winter lovers. Beijing is much colder than Philly in winter, but doesn't go up and down all winter either.
Well what broadleaf we have I enjoy! There are plenty of Evergreen oaks in landscape and more that are underutliized. Even some of the deciduous oaks stay green well into December (some right outside from where I type this!)
Yes we may never grow eucalyptus trees outside of central Florida east of the Rockies, but there are still plenty of evergreens we can grow from other regions of the world.
