The next 2 weeks will be above normal that looks to be certain right now. Beyond that, look out for what the PV does and in what direction the cold goes... I have a strong feeling that January will be very cold

Just because there will be SSW event does not mean January will be very cold... that cold may very well go over Europe.

If it's a split then there will be two lobes of Arctic air descending on the mid latitudes. One likely goes to Eurasia, the other North America. Precisely where is the question.
