Bastardi also said the DJF period in the southern us would average -5 and be coldest on record basically... fancy how that worked out for him. Not too mention, long range guidance trended towards a strengthening of the pv, and strong -pna... not cold signatures at all. Bastardi had now also pushed all the cold back in his forecast...
January has been about -5C in the South. Let's see what February brings
3-7" of snow fell overnight and this morning. MDW got 5.3". Don't have the official word from ORD yet.

Exciting times! I was 12 years old back on January 20th 1985 when Chicago hit it's coldest temp on record. Ryan Maue says it may be broken! Euro has a -29F for both ORD and MDW and a -28F down by me.

I don’t know how anyone still pays any mind to JB, seriously.
Currently 68F in Austin under sunny skies, high of 71 predicted. Wind out of SW (Chihuahua desert) 9 MPH, bone dry air. Low of 38F predicted tonight, bone dry air can't hold temps.
Cold front comes through tomorrow, high of 53 expected with strong north wind.
It's nice and mild today in northeast Georgia. I don't mind a mild day or two here and there during the winter. I just hope that the "torch" next week doesn't exceed expectations, because the forecast high and low temperatures in my area look similar to those we had after Christmas and through New Year's Day before the current cold pattern settled in, and that's my upper limit of temperature tolerance during this time of the year. At least the upcoming mild period appears to be brief, only lasting for a week or so before chilly temperatures return in the middle of February.
Tomorrow, there is a winter storm watch to my west, but not for me. I'm afraid that this will be like December 2017, when areas north and west of me got several inches of snow, but I only got a dusting. That makes me sad.
