I have a dilemma.. Do I want the big coastal storm to stay farther away to ensure NYC continues to streak but I get less snow, or closer so I get more snow but risk the NYC streak ending.. Dilemma. lol

I saw some mixed metars on my map, thanks for confirming!

Snow spotted off Louisiana's coast Tuesday afternoon: See video | NOLA.com

As you can see it's very cloudy/stormy out there. The Gulf of Mexico is not going down without a fight!

SST as of Dec 31:

Upper 50's along LA/TX and northern FL coast but mid 70's in mid Gulf.

SST as of Jan 2: (greatly reduced in southern part of Gulf but not northern as the flow is clockwise, still upper 50's):

Whoa! I'm gonna post the radar in the storm thread. THANKS!

Actually, there were some sun peeks last Friday and Saturday. There were quite some hours of sunshine during New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day was mostly sunny.

Drove up to Montréal yesterday. Was -19C when arrived.

Today has been a bit warmer at -14C (makes quite a difference in terms of comfort!) and has been snowing all day.

Quite a big snowpack here, looks nice, will post pics next week ish.

trying to hold off making too many stats comparison till more of the cold happens. This weekend obviously the most extreme and will make or break this cold spell stats-wise

I did and wanted to look more into it.. Here was the Upper Height pattern on Jan 23, 1961...
thanks for pulling up the map, does that look like an exceptionally cold pattern for New England to you? Or not really enough info? Overnight lows depend on the entire vertical profile and wind (has the ground been cold for a while, snow?)

Who cares? Florida is still gross and its full of lizards. Also, we're not bleeding population up here. If anything we got too many people.

I shovelled snow once this entire winter and that was by choice. I could have not shovelled anything and it wouldn't make a difference. I'm sorry but why would I need to shovel when there's barely 5 inches outside? Are you like that weird neighbour I have that uses his snowblower before the snow even accumulates? Lol.
