Wow! over 80F at 6 am, yikes!

That would an all time record low in my neck of the woods.
UHI in NYC is very strong.

We had an extremely humid afternoon yesterday, 30C feeling like 38C
with very heavy rain and T-storm. Even a rare tornado in Angus (near Barrie),
damaging 30 homes.

We're sitting at 69 at the moment - I'll take that over 80...lol. Keeping my fingers crossed for another t-storm today.

Look at the 80s elsewhere, though, in places like Western Maryland and NW NJ. I suspect that 86 is WVa is a misreading. Maybe even that 81 in Western Maryland. Sure, the UHI contributes, no doubt in the case of New York, but it can't be the underlying cause here--it's the particular weather pattern affecting the region. Upper 70s throughout the Delmarva can't be attributed to UHI. Look at places like Atlantic City at 77, and they're over 80 now, as are we. Our low was 78 (our normal low on this date is 62).

Comparing to other coastal mid-Atlantic station, looks like the NYC UHI effect was 2-5°F

That seems about right. I wonder what the average is... one could probably come up with a figure by comparing NYC stations with other coastal stations, like you said. Anywhere from 2-5°F is what I'd figure it would be, though.

Edit: Actually, never mind, because the effect wouldn't increase in a linear fashion with increasing temperatures. It'd be a curve with diminishing returns at greater temperatures.

I posted a paper on that a while ago. I'd have to dig.
