Now there is more behind it and the region has exploded with storms. The one that just passed had a severe and flood warning on it.

Started with a morning minimum of 72F, got to 90, dew point was never below 69, and then over an hour of Florida quality lightning. This has been one of my happiest summer weather days ever, certainly in Kentucky, and even now as I write this thunder is beginning again.
Nice. 58 MPH Thunderstorm Wind Gust recorded in Lexington. http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/SL.us008...nw/sn.0052.txt

Saw a hail report too.

Warning just placed NW of you right now. Some cells are just sitting there not moving much.

Don't forget to report any hail to your local NWS. Via Twitter, facebook, Ham radio or phone or online with their site..

Marble size hail fell in Lexington area https://twitter.com/ChrisJohnsonWX/s...992128/photo/1

Cool tweet from NWS NY. They were posting the obs as the balloon was rising. It actually bursted at 110,000 feet. They are having a public invite to the balloon launch July 27

NWS New York NY (@NWSNewYorkNY) tweeted at 9:12 PM on Thu, Jun 19, 2014:

"Balloon is currently at 10 mb, with temperature of -36F and humidity of 1%. Wind 30 kts out of the east. #UPTONUPPERAIR"

Much cooler by the lake today. A measly 19C at Northerly Island (Loop). Reached 26C at ORD and 28C at MDW. Was over 30C for most of the south suburbs including by me

Just watched my local 9PM weather update. Tom Skilling (met icon of mine) suggested closer to 90 degrees on Sunday.

Forecast for ORD

Either way, a very tropical like weekend in Chicagoland...

0.76" today. There were no torrential downpours, the heaviest rainfall skirted around. The mild wet air after rain is so invigorating on humid summer evenings.

Love the map. The Gulf has just enough power to fight off that high. Between two dry places, humid and "sticky" continues for me through the weekend.

But I will savor the temperature staying above 70F the next few nights. When the rain chances increase, there becomes more diurnal range, if you can figure that out.
If it comes at night, rain and thunderstorms will lower the temp, so the low will be lower, but if most of the day stays sunny and dry, the high temps will still be quite warm.
