Comment: Upgrading the Watch for 13-14 Sep due to anticipated effects from the CME associated with yesterdays R3 (Strong) event.
Potential Impacts: Area of impact primarily poleward of 50 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude.
Induced Currents - Power system voltage irregularities possible, false alarms may be triggered on some protection devices.
Spacecraft - Systems may experience surface charging; increased drag on low Earth-orbit satellites and orientation problems may occur.
Navigation - Intermittent satellite navigation (GPS) problems, including loss-of-lock and increased range error may occur.
Radio - HF (high frequency) radio may be intermittent.
Aurora - Aurora may be seen as low as Pennsylvania to Iowa to Oregon.
So hikers were forced to climb the cables, as the helicopter could only land on the top of Half Dome. I guess getting a helicopter ride off the top of Half Dome is a unique tourist experience. And for free!
It is interesting how July was the coldest month of the year in Ontario. The same cannot be said for places here in BC. I don't know that this has ever happened out our way, but I'd have to check.
Here is a summary of this summer showing the hottest spots in Canada. Windsor is the only place outside of BC. These are mean temperatures. If we take average daily maximum temperatures instead, Ashcroft and Osoyoos would tie at 30.3 degrees for the summer.
