Soooo Phoenix had its wettest day on record yesterday with 2.96 inches of rain. Tucson has recorded 1.52" so far today. It's always fun to watch the Southwestern Monsoon, especially when tropical moisture gets involved (this current rainfall is partly thanks to ex-Tropical Storm Norbert spinning off Baja California.)

Daytona yesterday a 3 hour thunderstorm and 3.5 inches of rain. Same setup underway now exactly 24 hours later. So jealous.

6th hottest summer on record around here despite the fact that June was well down the list. 2013 was also one of the hottest on record.

Too bad that didn't happen when I hiked up to the top of that thing - I'd gotten a free helicopter ride...lol.

I was woefully unprepared for the hike, too - not carrying enough water, not realizing how steep that last part really was, etc - damn near fell off coming back down, too. But the view was aaaaamazing - there's this ledge that sticks out at the flat end, looking down, it's almost a mile - straight down.

Technically, it fall and I should be posting conditions in Fall 2014 thread. But its quite depressing to see summer like weather continue its reign while northern cities see cool and cloudy weather. At least give me lower dew points, for once I don't want to be walking in a sauna.

In fact, I am so desperate for colder weather that I keep reading "first major snowfall for Alberta", as "First major snowfall for Atlanta". And from what I here, we only have one snowstorm every few years .

How much water did you carry? How hot was it? It's an amazing hike, definitely among the top several ones I've done.

So you've climbed the big rock too, huh? I did it back in 2001, exactly a month before 9-11, actually. It was hot at the bottom, warm at the top, with lots of sun blasting down. I think I had maybe 2 quarts of water with me, when I should have been carrying a gallon, at least. I ended up drinking from the waterfall on the way back down...lol. Probably not the safest thing I could have done, but I survived.

Did you do it all in one shot, or did you camp partway up and make a 2-day climb?
