Could go either way. When people complain of Florida's heat, I brag that Tampa has NEVER hit 100F. Even though it was 99.

^^

Might have never hit an air temp of 100 in Tampa, but they probably have seen a heat index of greater than 120...

Extremely doubtful. The record high was recorded with a dewpoint of 70F (heat index 106). With normal summer temps, heat index of 120 would be a DP in the mid 80s...

Probably right. Maybe not 120, that's more inland Florida.... But I'm sure Tampa has reached a heat index over 110. Even this August they hit 108

Must be an inland thing like George said...although the heat of late August was a fairly extreme event (for a stable summer climate like Florida).

Love/hate right now. Storms being only south and east up to this point has allowed us to be around 90F today. However, looks like it will continue to stay south through this evening and not give us any afternoon rain.

Wind was off the North Sea today. Funny how then, here, miles inland from the North Sea, it was a steely grey overcast all day, but my Dad, who lives right by the North Sea, had a nice sunny day!

Here is a list of the hottest summers on record. This is the mean temperatures. If you want to figure out maxes and mins, you'll have to add or subtract 7 to 10 degrees C to the mean. Notice that 2014 was one of the top 5 or so (depending on location).

Interesting. Yeah, there's no current airmass over the U.S that is really deep PLUS the colder air is off to the East instead... but Highs in the 30s and 40s is not too warm for this time of year even up there. Maybe normal?

National Weather Service

Here's current temps at 10,000 feet. Shift East a bit and its below freezing over Idaho & Montana.
