Quiz for skeptics: Why will this solution be unlikely to work for very long despite the good intentions of the scientists?

Quote:
A research team led by the University of Houston has developed a vaccine targeting the dangerous synthetic opioid fentanyl that could block its ability to enter the brain, thus eliminating the drug’s “high.”...

"Our vaccine is able to generate anti-fentanyl antibodies that bind to the consumed fentanyl and prevent it from entering the brain, allowing it to be eliminated out of the body via the kidneys.

“Thus, the individual will not feel the euphoric effects and can ‘get back on the wagon’ to sobriety,” said the study’s lead author Colin Haile, a research associate professor of psychology at UH and the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics (TIMES), and a founding member of the UH Drug Discovery Institute.

...“The anti-fentanyl antibodies were specific to fentanyl and a fentanyl derivative and did not cross-react with other opioids, such as morphine. That means a vaccinated person would still be able to be treated for pain relief with other opioids,” said Haile.

No talk of social workers but Big Ed budgeting for more police. Hopefully they’re enabled to do their jobs and get and keep criminals, especially violent criminals off the streets

Quote fromthe Tribune-Review of State Rep. Lavelle: “It’s certainly concerning that there would be any shootings anywhere in our city in broad daylight,” said Councilman R. Daniel Lavelle, who represents the area where Tuesday’s shooting occurred.

Huh? But it's somehow a little better if it was dark or in the middle of night? Politicians are clueless and lazy.

LMAO. Perhaps he just woke up from a very long nap. Though I’d wager he’s more about pleading ignorance than admitting a problem, especially since it’s been going on for some time and getting worse.

Yep. This clueless dude is going to be my new city councilor in the new year, too, due to redistricting, because they thought Marshall-Shadeland and the Hill District had enough in common (simply "cuz Black") to be grouped together. I am not happy that most of the rest of the North Side will be with Bobby Wilson while we are not. Our neighborhood is already in sad enough shape, and we had another shooting (not reported in the media) on Monday night that roused me from sleep around 9:15 PM.

I also love how the Post-Gazette has an editorial out today chastising the police for not being at the Brighton Heights murder "victim" funeral where the mass shooting occurred. Did the Post-Gazette ask Zone 1 (North Side) how many officers they had deployed on the streets that day vs. budgeted and if they had the (wo)manpower to provide officers? I know for a fact Zone 1 is very shorthanded at the moment. Our neighborhood group was promised foot patrols months ago that we have still yet to see, and Mayor Gainey has no immediate plan to improve (wo)manpower in the department. Any new recruit class takes about a year to hit the streets, so even if we don't get a new recruit class until Spring 2023 those new officers won't be on patrol until Spring 2024. Think of how many more officers will have resigned or retired by Spring 2024 when the police are already ~70 officers short bureau-wide. They will be ~150+ short bureau-wide by Spring 2024, and one class of like ~40 recruits isn't going to cut it, nor will two classes of ~80 recruits total. The mayor should have been on top of this when he was sworn in back in January instead of waiting almost a year to "get his footing" or whatever excuse will be made for a mayor who even has an extra "assistant" than the last mayor had (Peduto had a Chief of Staff---Gainey has a Chief of Staff AND Deputy Mayor).

They're obviously not interested in stopping the shootings. The next question is, why? Why is this course being steered by ALL elected democrats? What's in it for them, because you know it's not some magical alignment of the stars. It's intentional. Eventually, we'll know where the bribes originated and why. And then the families of the victims can sue the city unto bankruptcy.

One of this morning's stabbing victims in Mt. Washington has died. Pretty sure that makes #65 for this year's homicides. Will we break the 70 from 2014?

Last edited by SteelCityRising; 11-16-2022 at 09:56 AM.. Reason: There were only 70---not 72---homicides in 2014. My apologies.

The dems want to keep people down, that is where their votes come from. Until people start to wake up the cycle will never stop.
