Not really a fan of moving the airport to Brookley. This close to downtown will result in more traffic congestion and planes flying low over residential areas, which will be noisier for residents.

Not necessarily.

Anyone coming from out of town will take the highway and Mobile could actually improve it's highway access so residents don't have to take surface streets to the airport.

I am honestly hoping this encourages Mobile to improve it's freeway connectivity as it takes way to long go from say South Alabama to Downtown on the surface streets because of all the lights.

Can't say much about the noise though.

I see your point but there are other ways to the airport other than I-10( if that's what you're referring to). I was told that the flight path would minimize air traffic noise.

The flights paths wouldn't change, and the planes flown by Fedex and such are much larger than the ones that would be used for commercial traffic. So lower noise but more noise overall due to more flights.

Noise isn't necessarily a function of airplane size.

Aircrafts with larger engines will be louder and when taking off will be even louder for longer periods of time. The Boeings that fly in and out of Brookley have a dB of around 77 to 86 dB according to the FAA, while planes like the ones that fly out of Mobile Regional have an average dB of 66 to 83 dB.

Also, with more flights, a greater chance, albeit very small, of a plane crashing into a residential neighborhood (the Brookley area has greater residential density than the current airport area). Still remember the awful MSY Pan Am crash in a Kenner neighborhood.

It is pretty clear I was referring to commercial airplanes, as that is the type of plane that will be flying in and out of the airport. Fighters and commercial jets use two different types of engines. Mentioning a fighter is irrelevant.
